Riiiight then, I don't know if anyone can remember me...but hey I'll share my story anyway
It all started at 4 am (10.10.11) I started getting these weird cramps and they had a kinda rhythm to them so I knew this was it!
Started getting them at 4, very light. came morning time and I woke up and they were still hapening and I knew for sure these were now contractions. They were like at my lower abdomen. I got these little pains all during the day and then towards the evening they got quite stronger so came night time and it got a little painful so I rang hospital and told them. They said you seem quite calm at the moment, ring back in another hour and let us know what's happening. I rang in again because It was getting a little bit more painful.
They told me to come in so me and my partner went in and they examined me, I was 3cm. She said to me you can go home if you want to or you can stay, obviously I chose to say (although I know many women would not perfer that as they like the comfort of their own home) but I was paranoid because this was my first and that labour may progress fast and I may not be able to get an epidural so I stayed.
I shared a room with my partner, made him sleep with me on the bed as there was just a chair for him! lol. came morning time (i had been contracting all night and morning) contractions were quite strong, a lady examined me around 11ish and said to me that I was still the same! so afternoon passed and it was around 3pm and it was more painful now, she examined me and told me I was 6cm! I was like wooo and then I was taken down to the ward.
THIS is where it got too much for me, contractions getting stronger and stronger became SO strong by around 6. I was crying lots (i was fine untill now) I couldn't cope. I had already planned an epidural so said i wanted one and they told me we are short of staff and may not be able to give you one there are two women aready on epidrual so it depends on weather they will deliver before you so you can get it then. Oh my god ...having the epidural in my head was the only thing that kept me going!
Came 8pm by now I was shouting/screaming and wanting to die lol.
Midwife kept stuffing gas and air in my mouth as she reailsed that I was strong and breathed into it but then I lost it again and then stregnthed myself up and breathed for a while and then i would start crying again. The woman had delivered so I got told I could have an epidural OH THE RELIEF!
Then the man came to get me a epidural he was such a mardy arse I got worried about the contractions coming in because he would probbly get arsy but when they came boy was I crying before they were at their peak cause I knew it was gonna KILL. Anyway, he did everything (it kinda feels like a dream as i was in so much pain it felt like it wasnt happening but with all feeling lol) He said to me '' You'll feel a electric shock going down your legs but dont move as this can have some effect on you in the long run (he explained everything) BOY WAS IT A ELECTRIC SHOCK! My body just shook it was so strong but I didnt give a crap at the time because I wanted the epidural.
After the epidural the pain of the contractions stopped. I could feel my whole body still but just not the pain of contractions anymore so i got some rest, but thennnnn i started feelign like I needed to go to the toilet like I needed number 2 and I told her I think I need the loo a little bit (but these were contractions...all I felt was pressure and I mean it got worse!)It felt like I really badly needed the loo (about 45 minutes later) I told her that i want to push..but I think its the loo I need she told me that its normal for me to feel this. :\
Then I told her that my body won't stop and it's pushing itself and I can't help it! so she lay me on her side as she told me that the baby didn't like it me lying on my back he was getting distressed then I started pushing... it was hard as I was laying on my side bt I wanted to lay on my back..after a little bit I got to lay on my back and the pressure was very intense and I just kept pushing and pushing. She got the little baby bed thing rready and told me the baby is soon going to be born (gave me hope) but the thing was...
I COULD NOW FEEL EVERYTHING I COULD FEEL THE BABY'S HEAD! I expected complete pain relief although I was told that I may not get it but still expected it lol.
as the pressure got more, it was getting painful and then she said to carry on pushing and I did. I felt like the babies head was quite out but after a while of pushing I asked my husband can you see annythign and he said no not yet and this put me down and I was extremely OUT OF MY HEAD TIRED AND DIDNT HAVE ANY ENERGY my mouth was so dry i couldnt swallow at all. I forced myself to push as i wanted it over and then I felt the head coming out. This gave more pressure and it was stinging/burning and killing me! I kept shouting I couldn't do it and she said I could and that I have to carry on.
The babies head was half out and it really really was hurting me but I carried on pushing. His head came out and she said I have to do one more big push to take the body out. I did and the body popped out (that wasn't hard for me) and there he was
