He's 3 on Thursday and this month has been a battle. We've just overcome the fireworks fiasco (every bang warranted a cry and he wouldn't sleep for hours... even after the fireworks stopped).

Anyway, we past that and tonight... it WINDY, and he's wailing again. Nothing consoles him. Similar story with thunder. I know kids get scared. But it's just getting really tiring now. My husband and I aren't getting anytime together because my son is crying at random things... he's crying now because of the wind. I want to cry myself as i'm exhausted from consoling and talking and talking and comforting to get absolutely no where.

Anyone else suffer with children who are easily scared?? I don't know what to do.

Mine is a bit wary of things but oh and I don't react. She was scared at firework noise so we took her out to see them in garden. She wouldn't come out at first but was too nosey when we went out. I find peppa pig really good too as there is an episode called windy day where their hats blow off so we watched that and then she was fine, same for dentist. I know to isn't great for them but peppa isn't scared of anything and it's taught Lucie loads of things. Or could you get books about a windy day or something. I just try and show her it's all normal things. X

Is it more to do with the sound of it ?? Maybe try playing calming music in his room to try and cover it up ?? My nephew is really sound sensitive won't even use the hand driers. He wears ear defenders on fire work night etc xx

Our boys are so similar? James is a proper scaredy cat. Hates fireworks, hates having Happy Birthday sang (especially to him, it was his birthday Sat just gone and he had a melt down), he wouldn't go on any kiddy rides when we went on day trips in the summer, was terrified in the Rainforest Cafe [they have massive fake animals] to the extent we had to move tables.

Not sure what to suggest, I just reassure him and try to distract him.

Thankfully he is ok at night? Although we've gone back to him waking a few times.

X

Oh dear me :-(

Yes it is definitely to do with noise at nighttime and the anticipation of said noise. He has ALWAYS been like this, even as a baby he'd cry if I sneezed. Obviously he can cope with me sneezing now but any other loud noise and he's off on one. During the firework season my husband and I did everything we could to try and console him/prewarn him. We watched fireworks on youtube, watched them from our window, talked about them - he was even enjoying them... until he goes to bed, then he HATES it.

But it isn't just noises, that is just what we have to deal with at nighttime. He won't go on little toddler train rides, or go on a tractor or fire engines. Too scared. A proper killjoy! It's hard watching all the other toddlers just love all these things, but for mine it just winds him up and upsets him. Argh.

Nat, my son didn't want to blow the candles out on his cake last year... i'll report back tomorrow night if it's a similar story for his birthday tomorrow. :wall2:
