At 28 weeks I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes so I was aware that I would probably be induced at about 39 weeks.

I was 39+1 (6/9/12) when I had my pessary inserted to induce labour. I was induced at 11.30am and taken up on to the ward to relax and let it work. Throughout Thursay I didnt feel much at all. I felt some contractions but nothing worth writing home about. My OH stayed with me most of the day but as nothing was happening we decided that he should go to see his son and settle him at our friends house for the night. I spent the night having mild contractions, watching tele and sleeping. I'm glad I got this sleep as I was in for the long haul!!!

Friday morning came, my OH took my stepson to school and came straight up to the hospital. We went to the cafe for breakfast and I was contracting throughout but not in any pain. I felt so lucky that it wasnt hurting!
I had his company and my mum came in for a bit. My mum kept saying how lucky I was etc!! we had lunch and tea together an then things started to get painful!!!! I had paracetamol and codeine and my MW did an examination at about 5pm which revealed that I was 4cm dilated!!!! She said I was ready to go down to labour ward to have my waters broken an would make the phone call!!

At 6pm she came back and told me to pack my bags! Woohoo!!!!!! So I packed up an waited......and waited.......and waited.....at 8pm she came back and said that they dint have the room for me so I was going to have to stay put until a room became available. I had to have some oral morphene to help with the pain by now and was contracting fairly heavily. My OH was sent home at 10pm so I was all alone :-( My MW was lovely, making me cups of tea etc and eventually at 1.30am my waters broke naturally.

I still didnt get down to labour ward until 10am on the saturday! Almost 48 hours after I'd been induced!!! I got down to labour ward and was talked through everything. The MW down there was fab! Getting OH to do stuff and talking me through everything.

I had an epidural at about midday and this is where I entered hell on earth for 8 hours!!!!!!!!! Little did everyone know but my epiural wasnt inserted properly. It was pushed in about 1cm too far in to my back and nobody could work it out! So for 8 hours (until a 2nd anaesthetist came to give a 2nd opinion) I was left in agony. They kept on pumping me with drugs through the epidural and nothing was working. It was horrendous!!!! My poor OH saw me in agony an did ever so well. He was so calm and loving and did everything he was asked to do.

At 8pm the anaesthetist came to give a 2nd opinion and she was amazing!! she pulled it back 1cm and relief took over my whole body!!! I literally laid back and closed my eyes. Sleep took over me and between contractions I rested and slept loads!!! 2 hours after and my MW examined me. She said that I was 9cm and very close to being 10 so got everything prepared so I could get my baby in to the world! By 10.45 I was ready!! My MW talked me through everything, the position I was to do it in and the fact that I would take a deep breathe and PUSH! 'No needfor noise or screaming, I know you're in pain!!' were her words!!!

So at 11pm I started to push with every contraction and my 11.43pm my beautiful Lucy Mollie had arrived in to the world! I was so proud, shocked and relieved all in one crazy whirlwind of emotion!!

She is just perfect and at 13 days old is already starting to settle in to a little routine! I am so in love and despite the pain I went through the minute she was thrust on to me it was all forgotten about.

Here are a couple of pictures :-) xx
