Hi ladies,

Emily was born Monday and with initial feeding troubles has had some formula top ups and breast. I think we are getting there with breast now as she's waking for feeds every 3 hours. Is this enough as I thought they were meant to feed a lot more.

I've pretty much stopped the formula top ups, and have expressed as hospital told me to do so in my feeding plan. I do still worry if she's getting enough now.

Also starting yesterday she seems to wake for feed, latch on then nod off or stop suckling. Any idea why this would be? It can take a while of taking her off then she screams so obviously hungry, put her back and she stops again. Any idea why?

My boobs are feeling warm too - is this normal?

Sorry for all the questions - am finding it all quite confusing at the moment! Weigh day today so hoping she's not lost too much after our shaky start!! X

In the early days they tend to fall asleep when they aren't getting enough milk, rather than get fussy as they do when a bit older. Just keep tickling her or strip her off etc to keep her awake so she feeds more, increases your supply... Jake used to shake his head around and lick at my nipple to get the milk going before he'd latch on (very messy!), now if he latches on immediately, he keeps coming off and back on because the milk isn't there immediately!

James was the same in his first week, very sleepy wanting feeds 3-4 hrs and falling asleep at the breast so i had to rub his back to wake him or change his nappy. Hes nearly 2 weeks now and hes waking more and finishing his feeds so maybe its the same with your little lady.
Warm bobbies are fine aslong as you have no pain/lump and feeling fluey as this can be mastitis.

Sounds like anything goes :) she seems better during the day but it's night when she's fussing and not settling (which is when I add the formula in)

Ha Emily shakes her head too!! I do keep trying to wake her when she nods off!!

They just feel kinda warm to touch but no pain apart from my nipples!! Ouchers x
