if you still have to get a new one, just get one that wiill take the sim in your old one, i did this and it works fine

Hi Sarah,

I used to repair mobiles so saw a lot of 'potty' phones :puke:

The only thing you can do for your mobile is to dry it out gradually, like in an airing cupboard as Mel said, this reduces the residue left on the electrical contacts inside the phone and reduces the chance of a short circuit when it's turned back on.
Remove every thing you can off the phone, battery cover, etc. and leave for a good day or two

Things to do if you drop your phone in liquid (for those that haven't yet  )

1. Fish it out
2. Turn it off
3. Let it drain
4. Strip down the phone as best you can
5. Place in a warm place like an airing cupboard for 48hrs
6. Put back together and switch on

A lot of mobile phones now have small white stickers inside that turn red if exposed to moisture. These can be found in various places and differ depending on model and manafacturer but the common places are:

On the battery
Inside the battery compartment
On the main circuit board
On the main housing on the inside

The last two are not visible unless you take the phone apart and allow the engineer to see if it's been liquid damaged as a number of people remove the stickers if they go red and try and claim the phone hasn't been wet :shakehead:

If the handest turns on but starts doing funny things there is still hope, if you take it to a repair shop they may still have a go at cleaning it up for you which won't do any harm. It just depends on the amount of liquid damage as to how long, if at all, your phone will last.

TRADE SECRET TIME :shhh:
Liquid damage of any kind is not covered under warranty BUT if you take it to a repair engineer at The Carphone Warehouse (only the stores with a repair department onsite!) most are quite happy to dismantle the handset and clean it up as best they can and give you an idea of the amount of damage done as they can claim it as a warranty repair from the manafacturer (if under 12 months old) even though the haven't fixed it. This is because The Carphone Warehouse isn't owned by a network or manafacturer and therefore independant

However, if the handest doesn't even turn back on you're best to just buy a new one

HTH

P.S don't tell them I sent you, alright :shhh:
