moan from a health visitor!

I have a problem with my health visitor - SHE DOESN'T TURN UP!! I have only seen her once to get the red book and give her our details and that was it. We have arranged for her to come numerous times and she was a no show as per usual. We cant even get her to give us a phone call for gods sake!

Usually once your baby is past 6 weeks I thought it was more a case of you go to the HV clinic if you needed to see them? Or does that not apply for your area?

My HV usually does one or two home visits pre 6 weeks, the 6 week visit with measurements etc and then after that its seeing her at the clinic.

I'd check with your GP's surgery and see if there is a HV clinic being run.

I've not complained about my HV here. Nor anywhere. She has been wonderful :)

I'm aware that if I wasn't happy with her I could ask for another but I've not felt the need. She is a former nurse, MW and now HV and mother of 4 children. So she is pretty good with things. Also as you pointed out, and she made clear to me, all the information is based on Gov advice etc and is kind of a standard they have to tell us, but we of course don't have to take the advice given.

But she has also been great when I've had questions etc. She has made suggestions and given me prescriptions and done way more than I ever expected her to (home visits till 14 weeks and the occasional one now if I can't get to the HV clinic). I know my health problems have made me kind of housebound so realise the amount of home visits I get is above average. But she really has done more than I ever thought she could or would. Its been fantastic.

I do find it a shame that so many people here don't seem to like their HV or not find them decent for whatever reason.

I like my HV, she doesnt preach to me, she listens and understands what im going through,

Ive PND, she spotted it wrote to my doc explaing and had a chat with doc and then got tabs, I think i may have seen her in my home, about 7 times, but i think that is due to the PND, shes happy to call round yet knows she may be crowding me so gives me the option,

Im happy with her. Shes been very helpful

My HV has been great. I have no complaints :D
She is very knowledgeable and gives me excellant advice. As a first time mum, although I do trust my instincts, I still need reassurance from professionals. I am definately one that likes to go by the book and government guidelines, much to my OH's annoyance! Dan was far from textbook, but I still found she was forthcoming with practical advice and support.
Couldn't fault the woman!

............I actually saw her at my local tip (she lives up my road) and she gave me a quick consultation about a rash on Dan's leg. Now thats dedication! :rotfl:

I love all my HV's, I often see different ones and they are fine and always answer any questions I have, whether I agree or not they know their research and stats and that's part their job so welcomed :) I actually find my HV's a too nice, odd I know, but they are very eager to keep in touch and see how its going and I'm quite a private person and so it's often too much for me, but I do wish everyone had good, trained, empathic HV's

She'd arranged home visits and the HV didn't show which is very poor professional practice (any later than 15 mins you're supposed to let them know)

Generally they dont come out as a matter of course past 6 weeks but will if you request it and its very poor show if a visit has been arranged and they dont turn up.

I realised that. I was suggesting that if home visits were not working then to maybe see if their was a clinic that might be of use. At least that way soverign might actually see someone.

Also soverign if your HV is via your GP's practice you could always phone and make a complaint to the practice manager about her not turning up. Its what I would do rather than continue to suffer poor standards.
