midwife appointments

well thought i would start a thread that will hopefully help me and everyone else.

i know alot of us myself included ask what happens at each appointment so was wondering if we can all put what week each appointment should be and what happens at each one i.e blood tests etc.

Well my next appointment is 16 week appointment and I believe this is where I may (or not) hear the heartbeat and get bloods to see if high risk Downes. Please correct me if I'm wrong.....

Yeah 16 week some people hear heartbeat and you get tested for downs (if you want the test)

Urine sample at every appointment.

I had one at 7 week which was the booking appointment...i got weighed, BP, blood tests and talked about diet and everything. Also got my bounty pack!

Then 16 week as above.

I had my 24 week one early or is it 25 week? she listened to heartbeat and that was about it.

I have another at 26+3 No blood tests not sure what happens though...maybe measure bump?

Your meant to get more bloods at 28 week and then 31 or something? but i am just getting one at 30 week as the midwife knows i hate them and she assured me because my blood tests have been fine it would be ok, i mean i would have them if it meant me and baby were fine, but she said its fine

at my 16 week appointment i had my urine checked the babies heartbeat was checked didnt have any blood taken. but was given the results from the bloods taken at the booking in appointment

My blood was taken for the downs test at a separate appointment at the hospital

Booking in appointment i had blood taken urine checked and lots of paper work filled in

i have my 16 weeks appointment next friday so a week early as my midwife is off on holiday the following week. I have to take two samples of urine and then hear the heartbeat. i have already had the test for down syndrome as they do it at the 12 week scan in our area, had the results a week later and we are low risk yay!!

i also had blood test for downs at 12 week scan and result at 16 weeks appointment and heard heartbeat.

been told to take a urine sample to every appointment but that's about it.

anyone whos further along for the next lot? xxx

Hi just to say mine was different so I think there is no exact method just depends on area. At 12 week scan I had bloods taken for downs test! At 16 week she checked hb etc and gave me a bloods form which I need to go get my bloods done by my 28 week appoint. Mine goes gp, midwife, gp, midwife. So I've gotta see gp at 25 then midwife at 28! I think each areas different! X

At my 24 week check, they just checked urine, babys heartbeat and fundal height. They asked about any unusual symptoms and took blood pressure.

At 26 weeks (this wednesday) I have my glucose intolerance test, 28 week bloods and am having my anti -D injection at the same time. They are doing the anti-D and 28 week bloods 2 weeks early due to my fear of needles. I think the midwife will listen for heartbeat, check blood pressure and fundal height then too.

Then another check at 28 weeks, again it will be urine, blood pressure, heartbeat and fundal height.

I think urine, blood pressure, fundal height and heartbeat are the main checks with bloods at 28 weeks.

How many bloods does one have throughout?? I have only had two lots. One was at 9.5 weeks to check for diseases.. nice!! Then my second ones were at 12-13 weeks to check for downs etc et.. had no other ones?? Or been asked for any more..?

Xshauna.. as your bloods have been fine etc throughout so far.. does that mean that you are having more or not? Mine have all been okay so far and am awaiting my 24 week check..I have read how people have had downs tests at 16 weeks.. I had mine early.. everywhere is so different isn't it.. xx

Hi, no i still get more at 30 week. I would of been getting them at 28 and 31 i think but midwife knows i am scared so is just giving me another at 30 instead of 2 at 28 and 31 xxx

I was supposed to have my bloods at 28 weeks but they are taking them at 26 when they take blood to check for GD. I don't know anything about bloods at 31 weeks...I hope I don't have to have bloods then. It terrifies me!!

I didnt get another bounty pack at my 16 week appointment and according to the bounty website you dont get your 3rd pack till you give birth.

i asked when i had my booking in appointment how many times they take bloods due to my fear of needles as was told all being well should only be 3 times. had 2 already so hopefully next ones are last ones. xxx

16 weeks- blood tests for down syndrome etc. Bump measured, pee checked
24 - bump measured and pee checked
