So it's took me a while to post this up as things have been so hectic around here!
I woke up on Thursday 21st at 1am with contractions. I got myself up to get a bath and to see if they got worse etc. By about 7am they hadn't eased up so I decided to get to the hospital! We arrived there about 9am and I had an internal. As I was only 1cm dilated they sent me home. That day I managed on paracetemol but found it getting harder and harder to cope with the contractions! My husband and I decided to stay my mums that night as she was going to be with me during the birth as well and lived closer to the hospital.
I didn't sleep that night and the contractions were getting stronger and stronger and every few mins. I held out until about 9am on the Friday morning to go back in and the midwife managed to see me about 11am. She did another internal and confirmed that I was 7cm dilated! She was shocked I'd managed on paracetemol upto that point and put me straight onto gas and air.
By about 4pm I went into the birthing pool - which I loved! It really helped ease the pain and I stayed on just the gas and air. At about half 7 they had to put a catheter in me as I hadn't been able to wee since that morning. After they'd emptied my bladder and I had another internal confirming I was 9cm I got back in the pool and about half an hour later I started pushing. I kept pushing for an hour but the midwife got concerned so she took me out of the pool to see if my waters had broke. She broke my waters and discovered then that the baby had pooed inside. That's when it got a bit scary!
I had to be transferred to the consultant ward where they let me push for an hour without intervention. The midwife could feel the baby's head but after an hour they had to come and discuss my options. Micah had managed to twist his body and get himself stuck so even though the midwife could feel his head there was no way I could push him out without some sort of intervention. They gave me the option of being put to sleep and having a c section or having a spinal while they used forceps on me. I chose to have the spinal as I really didn't want to have a section! They prepped me and let me know that if forceps didn't work they'd have to give me a section so they got me ready for theatre incase. This was at midnight.
1hr 55 mins later Micah James Consiglio arrived weighing 7lbs 1oz. I had a 3rd degree tear and lost a lot of blood and he inhaled the meconium. It was a big ordeal and he was taken to special care and put on antibiotics. My little boy was such a fighter though and after 6 days in hospital together we got to go home. I have never been so happy or felt so much love. He's my little shining star and worth the near 48hrs in labour!
