Metronidazole

Ive got an infection in my 3rd degree tear and been prescribed this antibiotic.

Has anyone else had this while breast feeding?

My gp never said anything about stopping feeding, just that it sometimes makes milk taste funny.

But when I've looked up about it, there seems to be controversy over taking it whilst breast feeding. Where some have been told its safe and others told to stop feeding whilst on it. something about carcinogenic effects.

Breast feeding network says its safe.

I'm going to call doc tomorrow for reasurance. I'm just worried I'm putting my baby at risk.

Anyone can help?

I always went by the breastfeeding network site.

A tip though...if you're taking anti b's, drink those probiotic drinks to replenish the good bacteria. I ended up with thrush in nipples after taking antib's and it is not nice!!! So that's something to help avoid thrush.

If Breastfeeding network says it ok, that's good enough for me. They have a Breastfeeding counsellor who is a pharmacist. There isn't much she doent know about Breastfeeding and medications.

Thanks I got Actimel and have been drinking two a day!

Today last day of antibiotics and I'm not sure it has cleare the infection

Going to see doc tomorrow to have it checked again so will see x

Please do hunny I'm on my third lot of anti biotics for the same thing …I suppose it's hard to keep that area sparkling clean!

Hope it heals for you soon I'm 7 weeks post partum and only just recovering …they were natural tears no intervention x x

Well I have a slight improvement. I've had no pain meds since this afternoon and I managed earlier to go to the toilet without any pain! The constipation has been really getting to me. Tmi but oh what a relief! Lol. it's only the fourth time I've been in nearly 3 weeks and the last 3 times have been hellish.
