Morning

Today is my first day of starting metformin. I have PCOS and i am overweight; my periods have been non-existent for roughly 9 months. Not ideal when you are TTC. I have lost 3.5 stone through slimming world and plan to continue with the weight loss alongside taking metformin.

Does anyone already take Metformin? I've heard mixed reviews about side effects. Really hoping I can work through it until (presumably) they will subside as my body gets used to them.

I have beed advised to have 5 days of taking 500mg once a day with breakfast, the increase to 2 x 500mg a day for 5 days with breakfast and lunch, then finally take 3 x 500mg 3 times a day.

I'm Hoping that I will see a period soon.

Good luck :)

I tried metformin for pcos, I had no side effects (I only took 500mg and the slow release one, which tends to have fewer side effects though). I didn't lose any weight on it. I took it alongside clomid so also don't know if it helped my cycle as the clomid made me ovulate. Certainly worth a try though.

It tends to work well with PCOS. Personally I am also diabetic. Was given metformin for that. I did have a positive test on a cycle after I stopped taking it so who knows?! I did have side effects even with the slow release but the side effects tend to slow down and ease...I had hair loss (not common at all) so stopped taking it.

Good luck.

I've heard lots of people having different experiences with it. For me personally, it's not necessarily about weight loss. I don't believe there is any magic pill out there for weight loss, that's something that needs tackling with perseverance of good food choices.

For me I am hoping that my periods will re-start. We're planning to start trying to conceive in the summer. It gives my body a chance to get used to the full dose of metformin and hopefully my period will have started by that time.
