i have seen my midwife twice so far and i just thought to myself shouldnt i be being measured? i have read a few posts on here before about being small/big and i dont have a clue. im thinking i might start doing it myself once a week just to see how much and often i am growing. does anyone else do this?

They dont measure your bump where I live and I tried myself but dont think I was doing it right, If I am I measure 29cms and I'm nearly 27wks!!!

I havent been measured yet either.

I dont think they do it all the time now cause they have growth scans if they are concerned.

on both my visits my mw just prodded me and said that its a good size for its age. i said you hardly touched me, how can you tell. she said shes been doing it for years. i dont think they 'measure' you till later. my sis was measured with a tape measure type thing later on in her pregnancy

i might still do it myself just curious to see how much i am growing as everyone else can notice me getting bigger except me :?

I was measured for the first time at my last MW appt at 26weeks
The fundal height measurement isn't as vital these days because we all get scans, which give accurate measurements. From what Mum's have said on here, this measurement doesn't predict baby sizes at all, as so many differ.
If you asked your MW vicki1983 I am sure she would explain whether or not its practised in your area.
Best Wishes

Midwives get veryt good at estimating the fundal height i think but the nice guidelines suggest that you should be measured at all appointments after 20 weeks. Its really tricky to do it yourself and not accurate you have to find the right point on your pubic bone and then the very top of your uterus. If you think you should have it done ask your midwife to do it, she shouldnt mind!

i havent been measured either.
i have measured myself, not the fundal height but the circumference of my tummy- 39 inches!

I had the fundal height measurement done for the first time this week. I was 20cm - bang on for 20 weeks. :) It wasn't the MW who did it because I've never seen her! LOL It was the doc.

Are you OK with not having seen your MW Sabrina? Good to hear you're bang on :cheer: hehe
Would having a full bladder affect the measurement too?

I love the diagrams on this webpage though, hope it's OK to post addy :)

OMG Redshoes that diagram was not like my examination! I never had an internal  Doc just measured from pubic bone upwards with a tape measure.

I'm not really worried about not seeing the MW to be honest. The doc I saw this week was really nice so if the MW isn't available I'll go back to him. :)

The hospital treatment I've had has been really good. They are very attentive. I've had 4 scans already. At least they are getting it right.

Hi

I get my bump measured once a month at my prenatals , you get it done every time here. I know if you do it yourself it could be tough to do it acurately , and same as if a different doctor then the one you usually have
Katrina

I didn't have the internal either Sabrina, I don't think many women do?? I posted the link more for the uterus diagram, sorry if I upset you, or anyone
That's what it's about isn't it Sabrina, the level of care, like you say it's been very good so that's what matters, they all sound just great, I'm glad you're happy, best wishes

:) It's ok RedShoes, I wasn't upset by the diagram. I just don't like the thought of internals. With my last son I never had one the whole way through pregnancy. Am hoping it's the same this time around.

No friends or family of mine have mentioned having to have one, I didn't think they were routine, I'm sure we'll be fine Sabrina

I think I tempted fate here by saying I'd had no internals! :?

When I was measured at the hospital on Sunday the doc found me to be 24cm. He did it three times and asked the MW to check to be sure. :)

Confusing isn't it?

at my 20 week scan the midwife didn't measure, she said because the scan looks good and she is growing fine :D

but i just did it now and i'm measuring at 19 or something now where near 26 weeks :|

but i don't think i'm doing it right?? it's weird and i don't understand

but it's meant to be where your uterus is and i don't have a cule where mine is??

It'll be fine Sabrina  Measuring out either way seems to be very popular
When I was measured neeko_1 it was from just under my breasts down to over my pants. However, I'm not slim and so I assumed the measurement would be bigger than my 26weeks (they say the measurement should be weeks=cms so 26+26), but I was 29cm.
They also say it's hard to get an accurate reading doing it yourself
I'm not at all concerned about it as the scans have said all is well, whether he be a bit bigger or smaller I don't mind, as long as LO's happy hehe
