it has been reported today that there has been an increase in the cases of reported measles due to the low uptake of the mmr jab.

I thought it had been made clear that the jab was now safe i just cant understand why so many people are taking the risk, i did wait while hannah was 2 and not the 13 months as i thought she would be stronger but she has had it as i was scared she would get ill

I was desperate for Jess to get it because there were so many people not getting it. I think though that the local figures are quite good for our area.

we gave our son the single mmr injections that was 5 years ago cause of all the problems, and we was gonna do exactly the same with our daughter but since the latest on the mmr has come out we decided to give her the combined, we did think about it long and hard and it was a hard desion but she had it on wednesday and i am happy about it now.

i waited until they were 18 months before getting it - aidan only had his 2 months ago. i will do the same with leela. there's been an outbreak in wales within the last year

I wondered about it but still went ahead and made sure Lucy had it.

The way I thought about it was that Measles etc are all known killers but Autism isn't. Plus, the link between the MMR And Autism wasn't proven. I would find it hard to live with knowing I'd caused either but I could live with the death of a child worse than the causing of autism or similar.

We got a letter from our surgery saying there was an outbreak of measles locally and to make sure immunisations were up to date.

Tom was due to have his MMR ages ago but he has had back-to-back colds/coughs etc so is now booked in for the week after next.

I'm scared to even have to wait 2 weeks! Measles is not nice.

Lx

Like most of us...............it's such a worry as what to do. But after researching it throughly we decided it was best. The pros far outweigh the cons, so to speak!

Lucy, Dan was the same. He missed the first 2 appointments due to illness. I started worrying incase he caught the measles!!

Mary70 - because as parents we make the choice we feel is best for our children

I agree it is a worry what to do. I haven't heard of a measles breakout here, there was a rubella one a few months ago but I guess it'll reach here soon enough.

there is no proven link between mmr and autism. it's just that autism starts to make itself known around the time after mmr is given.

i would rather my child had the jab then potentially have the diseases.

i totally agree we do but do we not also have a moral right to take other peoples children into account ?

to an extent but I will always put my children first, and I don't feel bad for doing so.

And so you shouldn't hun.
We all make our own choices for our own reasons

This post has made me realise i'd better do a little reasearch- it'as a bit ahead yet, but I may as well decide in advance...think I'll go for it mind you, based on what i have heard....

we got a letter explaining about a possible outbreak in Harrisons school.
Harrison had his jab and there wasn't a doubt in my mind over what to do regarding it, it helped with my mum being a nurse and putting the facts down straight for me.

It's crazy that people are still hung up on a piece of research that has been proved to be a load of rubbish.

Jacob had all his jabs at the right times and he's fine, never been ill with anything. In fact at 10 years old he's never even had chicken pox! And this baby will also have all her jabs too!

True!
We had Harrisons done at 13 months, we researched it for a very long time and weighed up the pos and cons!
But each to their own, each parent has gathered information to help them decide their decision and I know they wouldn't decide against it unless they thought it was best for them, no one would intentionally try to put their child in any risk!

One of Austin's friends had his MMR less than 3 months ago, and has since had Rubella and Measles! So that worked well... apparently they're not completely immune until the pre-school boosters anyway.

Austin's had his but I would never jump on anyone for choosing not to give the jab. Everyone does what they believe is best for their own child/children, and that's how it should be.

they can still get the illnesses but they arent poorly with them, kieron has had measles but only got the rash, malc caught them off him and was quite ill as he hasnt had the jab

finally someone who understands WHY someone might not want to give to their child, we dont care any less about our children, we all try to be the best parents we can be every one makes mistakes every day, i'm sticking to my choice of not vaccinating some probably wont like that but hey :)

i do feel strongly on the subject though and dont mean to cause ANY offence at all :D
