4 weeks late but have only just got hold of a laptop as I couldnt be bothered to type it all out on my phone or ipad!
Tuesday 5th November as almost a week overdue I went to have my blood pressure and wee checked at my local infirmary as it had been raised for a few weeks, it was high again and I had been having some headaches so they sent me straight over to the hospital (by ambulance which I found embarrasing but fun especially when they used the sirens), there they told me they would induce me as no point waiting around when I was already overdue so I was admitted to the ante natal ward. Had my own room luckily as I was in for a long stay and they let my OH stay over night with me the whole time I was on that ward thank god!
that night they examined me and i was 1cm dilated, cervix far back and medium, so they inserted the first pessary which wasnt too bad. I got quite alot of pains after this, they got quite intense but not regular. managed to get some sleep as they calmed down in the night after some paracetamol. Had my second examination in the middle of the night and was 1-2cm dilated and they inserted the second pessary. this made me lose some watery bloody stuff but managed to go straight back to sleep after being scared by a low baseline for babies heart rate on the trace. next morning i had lots of pain which seemed almost continual but wore off again
had a long wait to be checked again as the hospital was very short staffed and they had no beds on the labour ward so they put all inductions on hold! next time i was checked i was 2.5cm dilated and waters could be broken but not until a bed was avaliable for me, was given a full sweep during this examination which was horrific and had me climbing the bed lol. i lost some blood again later and just went for lots of walks with my oh and mum who were taking it in turns to stay with me.
thursday I lost my plug about 11am but nothing else was really happening, the odd ache here and there, I got bored and had a shower and glad I did as that afternoon I finally got a bed on labour ward so called my oh back as he had gone home for a bit. had a struggle taking blood from me which didnt get us off to a good start and they couldnt get the canula in for the drip, ended up with it in my wrist which was painful, then midwife broke my waters and started the drip.
it wasnt too bad, I was using gas and air from quite early on which i found pretty rubbish but happily watching tv inbetween contractions until about 1am when it all got abit much, i had an injection in my leg of something, cant remember what it was and i had an epidural not too long after and it all becomes a bit of a blur to me. was an awful night as every time i was examined I had hardly progressed at all and my heartbeat was raised and babies was too low, they had to put a clip on his head and there seemed to be lots of people coming in and out and looking very worried at the monitors so I was terrified and the epidural was wearing off. my oh said I didnt scream or anything once, I just cried alot which he found alot harder to deal with!
they kept saying we will give you another hour and check again and so on, but I never got past 4-5cm, we got to about 9am and they said I needed an emergency section, I remember lots of people swarming in and talking to me about risks and shoving paperwork in my face but I was just so scared by this point. they took me down and my oh got scrubbed up leaving my mum in a state in my room.
in the theatre they had some really lovely staff and trainees who were so good with me, holding my hand and trying to keep me calm, they really helped so so much as I was ready to have a breakdown!! finally they let me oh back in and they started and within minutes i saw a baby appear, he was shown to me briefly and then whipped away before promptly crying the place down, got stitched up and during this i think what had happened really hit me and i was being sick and couldnt stop shaking, was horrible but i was feeling ok by the time we left to go to recovery!! the surgery was alot better than I expected as I had been terrified of having a section through my whole pregnancy but I didnt feel a thing, was more bothered that I could see my insides reflected on the lights above me so I spent the whole op trying to hold my gown up over my head to make sure I didnt look!!
Max arrived at 10
6am 8/11/13 weighing 7lb 8oz, and hes so lovely,
my recovery has been good I think, painful but good, and Max is great, he is 4 weeks old tomorrow and I am so in love with him, hes growing well and was 9lb 1 oz on monday and seems to be bigger every time I look at him
As bad as my birth was it only put me off for a day or so, I already feel broody and I do miss being pregnant and having that anticipation of knowing I will soon be having a baby, so I dont think it will be too long before I am thinking about number 2
sorry thats so long, just wanted it written down so I can reminise really xxx
