I have bought some Mat pads from Mothercare, but I wondered if any of the normal night-time towels were also sufficient for the task ie; Always nightime?

Also wondering how many to take? Is there a connection to how heavy your normal periods are, I mean if you normally have heavy periods, do you think you get extra heavy post natal bleeding?

On the baack of the ones you get from boots it says you can use two packets in two days, so stock up! The fat ones are good for first few days as they add support but there is no problem changing to always after, make sure you change regularly though because the plastic back makes the pad a good breeding ground fo bugs so if you have stitches the wound could get infected.

Hi,
i took 2 packs to hospital with me, i didnt use them all, but i thought you never know how long you might be kept in for.
I got through LOADS of packs tho, i didnt realise how many id need, had to keep sending OH out to get more! bless him.
I dont usually have a heavy period, so i dont think it makes a difference. I did have stiches tho, and you do need to change the towels more often because like whats already been said, you could get an infection if its not kept clean and fresh!
So stock up just in case

i bought boots maternity pads they were crap so i got my mum to bring in tesco night time and heavy flow pads, there not the value ones there the next one up to it! if u get me :D x

I used Boots maternity and Kotex night time and they were fine.

My advice would be to get the thickest matresses you can find. SOOO comfy to sit on if you've had a vaginal birth with stitches.

I had an episiotomy with countless stitches and couldn't have sat down for a week without padding!

I used Boots Maternity Pads only for the first week, then during the second week I switched to Always Nightime for the nights, now i'm using Boots slim maternity as its so light.

I have used 5 packs of Boots Maternity pads, 1 pack of always nightime so far!! So stock up! :D

When I was using the maternity towels I leaked everywhere. I starting using kotex night towels with wings and they were really good. I just bled like a heavy period and whilst I was in hospital for six days I went through about 3 packs of 10.

i used the cheap boots ones
they didnt have wings (which was more comfortable)
and they were really thick, like the ones you get in hospital
so it didnt hurt to sit down ( i had stitches)

i lost alot of blood during birth and just after but once i got home it slowed down
i found always nighttime worked after the 2nd week
im still bleeding now so can last a while

I used the thick Boots ones for the first few days, well actually 2 of them! on the first day :D

Afterwards I used always ultra night.

I used Kotex nightime extra long ones which were great!! Didnt bother with the proper maternirt pads as I thought they were more of a gimmick and noticed on the back of the Kotex pack that it actually recommended them for after childbirth...much more comfortable I would have thought as well
