When I see maternity pads in the shops they look like a massive brick and very uncomfortable.

Do you need proper maternity pads or can you use sanitry towels? If i need proper pads what have people found the best?

Also what as disposable pants for? they also look very uncomfortable.

thanks for your advice

I used maternity pads for the first couple of days when my bleeding was really heavy but then switched to always ultra night time pads and found them fine.

I brought some boots maternity pads over here with me and they were ok, big but to be honest if you have stitches you'll be grateful for the extra padding when you sit down lol

thats true i had stitches and found the extra padding really helpful...i used mothercare ones x

i just used cheap supermarket pads, used too many of them when i had had Jamie to wanna spend loads lol

got cheap but nice knicker shorts from Primark to use instead of disposable ones too

i used boots pads and disposable pants.
they were really comfy on my lulu after stitches, i couldnt used normal pads as they were not as soft.
the pants were ok, im glad i got them coz i went thru that many due to heavy bleeding!

Boots do some thin maternity towels. Just as absorbant as the bricks!

I loved my matresses, so comfy!

Wouldn't reccomend disposable pants, waste of money. And depressingly undersized. I tried to put some on in hospital and ripped through 4 pairs before admitting I probably wasn't a 10 any more

i got cheapy ones too from wilkinsons i think then tescos own. for me they needed to be bigger! i used to wear 3 at a time. after having nathan i was really incontinent like everytime i moved i wet myself  that with the blood was a big mess. i didnt like the idea of wearing diposable pant so i brought a couple of packs of tesco value ones they were like 2 quid and tried to wash them or threw them out.

I suppose it depends on how much you bleed afterwards as to whether or not you could use sanitary pads v maternity pads.

They're not as bad as you think. I preferred the Mothercare ones, Boots do them really cheaply as well.

I bought disposable pants from Mothercare and they were much more comfy than you could imagine. Defo recommend them, so handy to be able to bin them afterwards.

My waters broke early and I had to wait several days before being induced, so my maternity pads came in very useful before the birth as well as afterwards. :D

i bled alot they were good but i found they were too thin so sometimes it would go over the sides...

i found the always ultra nightime pads soo good they are wider and nearly as thick as maternity bricks :)

I found the disposables to be fine - much comfier than I'd thought. I can't remember whether I got them from Boots or Mothercare but to be honest I was glad to be able just to throw them out rather than worry about trying to wash them.

I also found the maternity pads were good in the first few days - the bleeding was so heavy that I didn't dare try anything else to be honest - in fact on the first day I used two end to end because when I laid down the blood would leak down the crevice of my bum :puke: Thankfully the heavy flow didn't last too long and I switched to smaller ones after 2 or 3 days. I didn't really find the pads comfortable though - too bulky.

I'll check Boots out for the thinner ones this time I think.

LBxx

Id definately get maternity pads, as like others have said, if you have stitches you are going to need that cushioness to help ease them.

My bleeding wasnt too heavy, and I could have switched to sanitary towels after a day or so I reckon but have only just done so now.

As long as they are absorbent and comfortable, it doesnt matter what you use, id buy a selection of both maternity pads and sanitary towels then you have the choice after birth.
