Make-up During Labour!

I'm not massively into make up... bit of mascara and powder and and blush but that's it!

I was in labour 22 hours with my son, and I can honestly tell you that it was the last thing on my mind.... I felt awful and didn't care about anything!!!

Hey Wednesday!

I don't wear foundation strangely enough but without mascara and something on my lips I feel nekked! :oooo:

My God I'll probably be exactly the same way, all these dreamy ideas of labour then hell breaks loose and I'll be hoping to die I'm that much of a wuss hahaha

The last thing I'd let surface would be a picture of me and my newborn where I didn't have make up on! I went in to labour wearing make up already and it was long wear stuff as I have bad acne and pregnancy made it worse. I was in labour for 4 hrs yet like other have said, by the end there was none left because I relied on a wet flannel on my forehead. I didn't actually get a picture with DS until the next morning anyway as he was taken to SCBU by which time I'd put make up on though I purposefully did it so it looked like I wasn't wearing any and everyone said I was glowing LOL x

Belfa that is hiliarious!!!

Go girl! Good tat love a good labour/glamour life hack!

I don't wear foundation so I think I'll be okay, it's just the thought of being without mascara and bare, nothing lips that terrifies me almost as much as pushing a small melon out of my ahem!

What long lasting products did you use by the way?

Did you find your eye make-up lasted?

Ahh bless you. I felt the same for my first laboir and I took a full make up bag so I could have nice pics taken (once showered) and I thought I would have make up on for the birth. My reality was that I was in and out of the bath at home and hospital like fiddlers bloody elbow and my labour was like 2 long days so I had none on for first pic and my face was all fat and blotchy. I hate the photo to this day but it was my warrior face so got to run with it.
You do what makes you comfortable hun xxx

I had waterproof mascara but my makeup definitely did not last lol ! I looked a mess the first pics with her but I felt so sore and also so focused on her I just didn't care. The 3rd day I did my hair and makeup and did some nice pics :).
xx

I like that, warrior face!

You're all right though, it's not a priority is it, I think I am trying to reach for some form of control when I know I won't have any! Nuuuu!

I use Mac Pro longwear fluid and liquid concealer and it does cover everything (my acne leaves red marks for months). I also use their select sheer powder during the day for touch ups.

I just used a rimmel BB cream I got in Morrisons and it gave the nice au natural look lol.

The benefit lip stain stuff is good if you don't want to reapply? Also I used to use Arbonne makeup and found it good and their lipstick in particular is very moisturising so I like it if my lips are a bit dry.

Hmm mascara, I've still not found one on the market that keeps lashes good all day. I think I would get them done at a salon tbh. Oh I use benefit brow zing which must be about 15years old but my browns are fine all day haha x

Having just given birth 3 days ago honestly make up was the last thing on my mind! Even if I had put any on I was so hot and sticky by the end of it it would have just slid right off my face!

The only thing I wanted after labour was a shower!! X

Thanks Belfa,

I've heard great things about all things Benefit so might have to invest! I did used to wear a light weight foundation of theirs yeeears ago when I was 16 and used to have all my money to myself (haha!) so I indulged, it was really good quality and I find the colours are very realistic/a good match.

 Lolz at your brows - if it works, it works!

Oh congratulations MissCharil! :yellow:

I can completely understand that - I'll probably feel the same in the end! What did you find you really needed in your hospital bag by the way?

Thanks :)

Honestly? Full thickness maternity pads! My mum bought me some of the slim ones they sell and they just weren't gonna cut it.

I was expecting to be in a lot longer (he was supposed to be induced Tuesday but decided to come early) so I had lots that I didn't use.

Oh, I bought a brand new bath towel and that was absolute bliss after my first shower!

A labouring woman is beautiful especially without make up, but, as a previous poster has said it does help make you feel more normal if you put some on if that's what's normal to you. I had my hair and nails done, and my eyebrows and eyelashes tinted so at least I had a base. I still looked bloody awful in the first photos! And when baby arrived I wished I hadn't because there's this weird desire to be pure and natural for your baby. I don't even wear perfume now because I don't like the thought of baby breathing it in. Whatever you do, you will be beautiful especially in your baby's eyes. Xx

Great advice MissCharli thanks, I'll be doing the same!

What lovely advice Betty,

That's such a beautiful way of seeing it - now you say it I can kind of see where you're coming from. I always have my nails mostly painted either a muted pink or a vermillion red and I really liked the idea of trying to keep my glamorous self going but you're right, it's really not what's important!

Maybe I am naturally a bit of a vixen inside! It's the same for your wedding day, I think the general consensus is, nice glowing, natural make-up and a demur dress - I went dark read lipstick, nails, deep red roses in my bouquet and a front plunging lace number that was fish tailed and backless! Not everyone approved by I did feel some old Hollywood glamour! (Aaand I felt I got away with it because I have near non-existent A cup boobs!) It might take a battle for me to forget about the lipstick but here's trying!

Interesting you say about the perfume - since being pregnant I have felt the same about toxins. I haven't worn any deodorant with aluminium or chemicals in it and I stopped drinking soft drinks and even left behind my beloved coffee!

I guess there's a mama in all of us :preg:

I went in with make up on at 7am on the Friday, but by 18:29 on the Saturday, it had all gone. On Sunday morning I looked awful. No make up, my hair was matted with sweat as my body was fighting an infection and I was literally ghost coloured with anaemia. I went for a post-section shower and took my shampoo and conditioner which the midwife warned me was maybe pushing myself a bit hard (I did get quite faint and had to pull he cord in the shower) but I felt so much better and then I put make up on. I wouldn't say it was glamorous, but it made me look slightly less like death when visitors came.

Joey that is so commendable and what an effort!

Got to say I would feel exactly the same way about a shower! You seem very brace!

They made my OH come with me in the shower to make sure I didn't pass out haha. Luckily I was fine, I've never passed out before in my life and I wasn't about to start then!

You've had the baby Charli!! How have a missed this?? Baby Theo, how gorgeous. Hope you're both well. Eek congratulations xxx

I spoke about wanting a shower A LOT during labour but they could only offer me a bath. I was SO happy to have a tea tree tingle shower gel because it made me feel so clean & fresh recommended!! However.. My hair was a DISASTER even the day after... How does everyone else do it?

I washed my hair but i have curly/wavy/frizzy hair with odd straighter bits its mental naturally and i usually live by my straighteners! Occasionally i can get away with natural hair but its so completely unpredictable.

Anyway i thought id preempted this with my first labour by washing it and immediately french plaiting it... But as i had nothing to straighten my fringe it looks so scraped back and i look ill in the photo but that might be also because i refused to go to sleep (and for a week after birth) was too scared of anything happening to baby. Anyway thats another story...

I say just go with the flow... I had leftover makeup on and reapplied afterward but it didn't help i was a mess.

im waiting for hair hair tips from any other crazy hair ladies who need hairdryer and straighteners like me???

Oh you've just reminded me of the horror of the first post birth bath / shower!
