Okay ladies!

So I wanted to put this out there and get some opinions - all you ladies who are trying, due, or given birth, please let me know!

What do you think about wearing make-up during labour?

I've gotta say, I am on the more glamorous side and I always, always wear red lipstick... I just don't want labour to be any different! Am I being ridiculous and naive here?!

If I could, in an ideal world, I'd have my hair recently cut, my eye lashes tinted and curled, my eyebrows tinted, a bit of concealer, a bit of waterproof mascara and some long lasting lip tint or lipstick on. Oh and all my nails painted including toes, all leg hair waxed to perfection and some nice pyjamas right?!

Am I being unrealistic?

Let me know what your thoughts are on the idea of a "glamorous" labour, if such a thing is even possible haha!

Lol I thought I'd be the same! I did have makeup on during labour as I'd come in for the induction drip but had I gone into active labour naturally and I wasn't already wearing makeup I prob wouldn't of put it on. Honestly though it will come off in labour lol I started with makeup on and hair looking ok and by the time she was born (only 4 hours) there was no makeup left on me and my hair was stuck up all wild Lol! It was honestly the last thing I cared about during labour. I used to always have my nails done but painting toenails is sooo hard when you are huge and I had so much pain in my hips I couldn't of sat still in a salon to get them done! Haha my legs were probs awful too. It gets so hard to reach anywhere lol.
I did pack a nice new nightie which I only wore after labour..i just kept my pjs on..my top got covered in blood and my shorts and knickers were off after about 10 mins lol.
Nothing wrong with planning to be as glam as possible and seeing how it goes though! :) xx

Um I don't normally wear make up and it never even crossed my mind to do so for the labor :D In fact I remember lecturing hubby not to spray himself with deodorant if he want skin to skin. All I could think of was my brand new baby being exposed to any sort of chemicals lol... I'm a bit of a freak like that x

I think you just have the ideals of a first timer - the same as I did! I don't leave the house without make up, not from a vanity perspective really but because I have quite bad rosacea so it's just become a bit of a mental thing. I was actually induced so was already wearing a full face/hair and was sure I'd keep it all on but 12 hours on it felt gross and I was hot so it came off and I scrapped my hair back! You honestly will not care, in my experience. I'd also got a nice nightie but turned out it was too thick so got put in a gown! By all means get your nails etc done before but don't worry about it all too much as your focus will be elsewhere x

I laboured overnight and make-up was the last thing on my mind during it. I was so sweaty, a fan wasn't cutting it. I even lost shellac nails during labour I have no idea how. I was only bothered about make up the day after the birth

I was in hospital for a week before I had my little boy and used to make the midwives laugh as every day I would get up, shower, put my hair up, put clothes on and do my make up. It made me feel more human in a really crap situation. ON the day they induced me I therefore had make up on but it was in the evening so they left me overnight and I took it off. I was labouring but slowly and put some foundation on the morning I had my little boy as it was a good distraction but that was as far as I got. My other half did have strict instructions to not show anyone pictures of my without any make up on.

See how it goes but I really wouldn't be worrying about it. The things you can do before like waxing and nails go for it but make up will just be a matter of wait and see on the day.

By all means wear it, but be prepared for it to be smeared all over the place or non existent by the end. You won't care. You're pushing a baby out of your fanjo, there is nothing glamorous about it :D

Haha so true.

Have to agree with the others, I got my hair done a couple of weeks before due date, my hormones grew it out that quick I ended up with 2 inch roots in the 4 weeks between dying and labour (I thought I was being well prepared, pfffffft), and my beautifully cut fringe was literally smeared back on top of my head and stiff from sweat and labour pool water. The rest of my hair was scraped back in a bun right on top of my head. Awful! Second labour was no better, I was a fat, sweaty, huffy, agonised mess.

I don't think I'll even bother shaving my legs this time

The best advice I had when I was pregnant with DD ((which actually came from my husband)) was to "expect nothing, plan nothing, just roll with it" if you feel upto all of that then do it, if you don't then don't, but don't feel awful if you don't get all those things done before xxx

I was so hot by the end the thought of having make up on with all that sweat is fairly unappealing, but I'm not really a make up wearer. If it makes you comfortable then go for it. I was just thrilled to have a shower at the end and change into something fresh. Also bear in mind if you need interventions they will take off nail varnish, so take it with you if you want to put it back on afterwards.

My nanna always wore red lipstick and rouge and I bet she laboured with it on! I can't imagine she took it off!

I'm going to do the same as I did the first time. Get my hair cut and coloured around 38 weeks so it's at least lovely and fresh from then on and get my eyes brows waxed and tinted weekly in the run up. I always think having lovely eyebrows goes a long way (yes I'm one of these people that talk to and analyse your eyebrows, sorry). Hubbys goinrg to help with the shaving department then I'll keep on top of it (as best I can) every couple of days. So at the very least if I'm caught short with labour I'll have fairly recently been shaved, my eyebrows will be lovely and my hair will be clean and fresh (and i won't worry about my roots the first few weeks after birth). Here's hoping it goes this way  I'm not too fussy about make up, although I wear it daily, it did bug me in my first labour as I felt it sliding off my face. This time it'll be a lip gloss for dry lips which I'll be taking with me and a good face moisturiser :D xx

Oh yeah actually - lip salve is the only thing that went on regularly as I have a thing about dry lips!

Nipple cream is brilliant for dry lips - especially from the gas and air in labour! I still use it now - slap a load of it on before bed at night and it keeps them silky smooth (obvs don't go around using nipple cream on my lips while out in public - just behind closed doors - a nice normal lip salve for day-to-day use!)

Ha yes she always had a coffee on the go. I wonder how much lipstick she got through in her lifetime, I bet it was no end. It doesn't suit me otherwise I would do lipstick more often, I have a lot of 50s style circle skirts and it would go nicely. I just stick to nail varnish really! I do like to vary the colour, it doesn't tend to last long as I work outside so means I can change it a lot!

I'm not massively into make up... bit of mascara and powder and and blush but that's it!

I was in labour 22 hours with my son, and I can honestly tell you that it was the last thing on my mind.... I felt awful and didn't care about anything!!!
