10 years ago I was pregnant and was diagnosed with having low levels of embryotic fluid, I was told not to worry and seen every two weeks so the doctors could monitor the situation, on the 24th week it was found that all the fluid had disappeared and that my baby had died and had to be still born.
I am now pregnant for the second time with my new partner, we just had our 20 week scan and the lady conducting the scan said that subjectively (due to the awkward position of the baby) there was normal to low levels of fluid, she said that the deepest pocket measured 4 (I presume centimetres).
So we went in yesterday for a second scan, the lady conducting the scan said that they fluid levels where low (she mentioned 2.8), I explained that I had leaked the night before. So I was sent to the doctor, the doctor said that I wasn’t leaking, she gave me a swab to test for infection (apparently an infection can cause the hole which the water leaks from) and then she went to speak to a consultant.
When she came back she said that if it wasn’t for my history they would send me home and tell me not to worry and that they would monitor the situation closely, we said that the level had apparently dropped from 4 to 2.8 cm so she explained that the fluid levels are constantly in flux (due to the baby drinking / urinating etc.).
So we asked what the solution would be if fluid was found to be leaking, she said that there wasn’t anything they could do. So we then asked if there was anything we could do (like drink more fluid) she said it didn’t matter just avoid riding horses (we live in a city????), this is our like our worst nightmare. Can anyone please offer some advice?

I'm sorry u r going through this again hun, I can't imagine how scared u r. I don't have any advice but I do remember wen I leaked a bit at 24 week's I was terrified n untill they could scan me I did the dreaded goggle search n there was many positive stories on there of people having regular check ups n then having the baby early wen then had low fluid. Hope all goes well for you will b thinking of you.

Dont ride horses? really? I'd drink lots to keep fluid levels up but water!

I would pay for a private scan and get a second opinion. X

I'd pay and get a second opinion. Where do you live?

Hope you're okay, drinking more water can increase your fluid levels.. They need to keep on top of this.. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss :( I had Oligohydramnios (low fluid) with my last pregnancy and had to be urgently induced as I had lost all of my waters after weeks of telling them I was leaking but each time they checked me they said it wasn't waters.. I hope everything works out ok for you I can't imagine the worry you're having right now xx

Many many things can cause low fluid levels, one that I am most aware of is kidney problems. That doesnt mean your baby has that but if I was you I would be asking for a consultant and more in depth scans of the organs x

(You shouldn't need to pay for a second opinion, your hospital must provide this. )
