Hi

Had my follow up yesterday and wasnt great! :( Everything seemed okay but my AMH levels were low. I am 25 years old and they are 15.7.

The doctor advised that we have 2 months of meds to try and improve this before starting clomid but said we could go right to clomid if we wanted to.

Really dont know what to do! Is it a waste of time to go to clomid without trying the DHEA? The nurse told us that DHEA hasnt had many clinical tests but there is lots of annecdotal evidence that it helps with fertility and either way it cant hurt.

I really just dont know what to do! Any advice is welcome!x

Don't read too much into AMH levels, it's only the quantity of eggs not quality, I had a AMH of 1.29 and my LO is now 16 months old xx

Hi Lesley, I have low AMH too, I know yours is lower than they would expect but its not too bad, still plenty of eggs left. Like alwaystrying said, try not to focus on it too much, it consumed me for a long time and really got me down until I saw a consultant after my last miscarriage and he said even with a low reserve, as long as I am ovulating every month then there is still a good chance of it happening, esp as still young xx

Before I started IVF, I was told my level was 12. During egg collection four eggs that fertilised were top quality so I wouldn't worry about it. Its not all about numbers :) x

Hi!

Thank you all for your replies! I am feeling much more positive now than I was before! :-)

I hope this dhea works and gets us closer to a BFP! Anyone on hear a had any experience with it?? I'm on it for 2 months before we start clomid x

I was never offered it. I did read up on it and considered taking it but the side effects put me off. Did they check that your levels were low to begin with? xx

What side effects did you not like? I've read about hair growth and spots.

Yeah my levels came back on the low end of the scale but still on the scale so that's good I guess! My tubes are unblocked now too from my hsg (ouch!!) so I guess I now have more chance than I ever have before regardless xxx

Close pal of mine was told she had little chance of having a baby as her AMH was 0.4 at 34.

She has just had her second now with a 14 month age gap..

Ahhh that's so lovely to hear success stories like that!!

I am now thinking forget the dhea, I can't find much research to suggest it even works!!!x

Yes it was hair growth and spots that I didn't like the sound of because I am sure the hair can sprout on your face as I think it raises testosterone etc plus I am sure I read that if your levels are ok to begin with and you take DHEA then it can have an adverse effect. Did they say you had to take it? I have read lots of women swearing by it on various forums when I have researched low AMH but it is hard to know what to do. I take high dose coq10 instead to help with egg quality and I responded pretty well with IVF considering I have such low AMH, I think it did help, it was another supplement that kept popping up when I was researching xx

My friend (low AMH) done two NHS rounds of IVF with really poor quality eggs the first round and no eggs the second. She went private and they told her to take DHEA for 3-4 months before trying another round of IVF ....... she got good quality embryos and is now 22 weeks pregnant. I've been taking it now for a couple of months and apart from having to shave my legs etc more often I've had no other side effects xx

Hey - So sorry for the delayed response!

I dont have to take it no, I can go straight to Clomid or take it alongside Clomid if i want to. I am just really struggling to decide as I keep reading/hearing so much contradicting advice and stories! Where is nothing ever black & white?!!xx

Its so hard to decide because there are always conflicting views on everything ttc related. Maybe a pros and cons list would help? I know it sounds so simple but noting down your reasons for and against might help you decide one way or another xx

Thats a good idea actually! I do love a list! ha ha But like you say, it is then easy to see it in front of you rather than all going round and round in your head isnt it? Thanks hun! x

You're welcome :) I love a list too lol. I think its easier when its written down. Hope you manage to make your decision xx

Ha ha yep!

Finally made up my mind!! Going to keep on with th dhea but start clomid this cycle too. I was told to take dhea until I got a bfp and was due to start clomid next month anyway so a month earlier isn't too drastic.

Obviously I am still hoping that I will get my bfp this month and this will have all been pointless!xxx

I'm glad you have made your decision :) Hope its not a long wait for you xx
