I have put on about 3 stone so far during pregnancy and I hate it!!!!

I know that I am going to need and want recovery time after giving birth and it wouldn't be sensible to jump straight into a strict diet/fitness regime before giving my body a chance to recover. However, I am keen to get back in shape asap after the birth.

Can anybody recommend a 'realistic' timescale that they think is sensible for starting to slim/take up exercise classes following birth. I am going to give breastfeeding a shot and see how it goes, so I know this will affect things. I also know my priorities and feelings/emotions may change after the baby is here and this wont seem so important, but right now I need to think about it as the size of my arse depresses me immensely!!! lol xx

I've not had a baby before so may be way off, but I am looking at walking alot ASAP after the birth and then getting back to a slow & gentle start at the gym after about 2 months. I will hopefully be breastfeeding aswell and will not be full on dieting to start with but will try to lay off the really fatty stuff!! xxx

I think walking is a great idea. I have been thinking that as much as possible im going to try and live like I don't own a car, and get out and about with my pram as much as poss. I do fancy Zumba though ....!! x

First things first, you loose a stone straight after birth...so that's one down. Secod I you breastfeed then the pounds will drop off. Third, don't worry aboutthe weight...it took 9 months o go on, it will take it's one to come off. It's importnant that you look after yourself and baby
Plus you may find that the weight just falls off, but there will be a kit of toning to do. Or this wait until your 6 week check up then do some long walks and maybe work out on a gym ball.

I'm having a c-section due to breech baby and I won't be able to do much for awhile, so I'm just gonna relax about it and let things happen.x

Well I can safely say after three kids and bf them about 4 months after I gave birth I had gained 1 stone with all of them! Bf doesn't ensure weight loss my metabolism is wierd I lost 2 1/2 to 3 stone during each pregnancy then gained nearly all of that back toward the end then lost loads during birth only to gain in back big news flash bf leads to hunger! And you will need to eat porridge and Lots of veg for a good milk supply ext... And loads of water! My body mass has gone down but my weight has gone up so I think most of it is water excess but still I reckon 9 months on 9 months off and I'm on the implant too which everyone knows your gain weight on they say no exercise till at least 6 weeks and don't diet when bf - I've just started my "diet" and yes I'm still bf but I've put on a stone in weight it's getting reddiculous all the calories I'm eating - which is currently only 2000 a day must e too much for me other wise surely I would be loosing weight ?! Lol sorry for the long post haha I hope your lucky and the weight falls off of you it was on me till I had the implant put in lol but I'm not having it out tho coz when I have stopped bf Chloe at 1 yr I'm going to diet my ass off lol!!

I've never lost my baby weight even from my 1st pregnancy! I've tried exercise and dieting and the extra weight just won't budge!
Make sure you take it easy after giving birth and set yourself realistic goals. Good luck x x

For something intensive like exercise classes, I would say wait about a month after you stop breastfeeding cos it takes it out of you. You'll still need extra calories to make your milk rich enough for baby so exercising and burning that off probably wouldn't help. In the meantime though walking is ideal.

Have you done Zumba before? I have - it's fantastic and such fun, but it really is a hard workout so don't rush into it!! xxx

I'm.giving my self two months after iv recovered to loose 3 stone which is mostly weight from baby number one last time round I just ate crap so all my hard core gym work had no effect. So this time I'm.going all out diet and exercise some one I know does body building etc and has recommended fat burners for me so I really going for it but I am training in sports and fitness in September so I want to.be in shape for that more than anything

my sister in law had a baby last feb and she was a size 14-16. She breastfed for 2 months and then started a strict diet and 6 months later she was a size 8-10! So yes its possible! She didnt even exercise until she'd lost all the weight to tone up. Shes my insiration - if she can shed so much weight then so can i! x

Did she continue to bf when dieting? Ds it effect her milk supply?

my baby is 2 and a half weeks old and im back in my old clothes from before, and have a stone and a half to lose to be back to pre pregnancy weight, but i want to lose 2 and a half stone in total. i have lost a stone so far, i breast feed and walk every day from when seh was 2 days old, and i eat really really healthily. dont get me wrong, i enjoy a treat a day, but i snack only on fruit, and try and eat very nutritious meals. porridge and a banana for breakfast! x

No sorry i wasnt very clear - she breastfed for 2 months and then started dieting afterwards. So by the time the baby was 8 months old she was a size 8-10. She looks amazing too! x

Ah ok I shall have to wait for my yer Mark then lol x

So far I've only put on a stone which I am pleased about....but am beginning to really pile it on now, so reckon it could be 2 stone if I manage to go full term. I was in hospital for 16 days and definitely lost weight!! The food wasn't that great and the portions so measly - they certainly don't believe in pregnant women eating for two, lol xxx

i think it all depends, i have been very lucky and after my 1st 4 i was back in my size 10 straight away, people called me a cow, but after my 5th i lost all the weight again but then piled it back on and as someone else said after 6 months of breast feeding i was about a stone heavier than i was after giving birth, i found i was alot hungrier when i breastfed and ate alot more than ishould have plus i sat down alot more to feed. i only lost te weight again because i got pregnant again and for some reason i loose weight when pregnant. walking is a good form of excercise and always remember everyone is different,we put it on and loose it differently but dont ruin those first few weeks with your baby worryig about weight, they actually say it takes 2 years to get your body back properly.

I have no idea how much I've gained, and I don't want to know either. I was diagnosed bulimic 10 years ago and that carried on till 2 years ago, I just can't go on diets because it messes up my relationship with food again. But I'm intending on getting out with the pram and walking most days. I also eat quite healthy too :) I think it would be silly for me to go on a strict diet.
