look what I found...

Im reckoning on staying as relaxed as possible, not pushing when they tell me not to and perhaps a little bit of massage, it cant hurt to do that. What will be will be :)

Im gonna do the following

- massage
-hypnobirthing/reaxation
-

btw is there anything you can do about tearing or is it just one of those things thats gonna happen if its gonna happen? Does water help? cos i kind of imagine it would soften everything but might just be makng that up!

Prob lots of people who can answer that better than me, I was told perinal massage did help (although if this is not backed up then maybe not??)

Pushing at the right speed and at the right time and having your MW there to tell you to stop really helps too :)

water is supposed to help and warm compresses as baby is being born.

I appreciate Pippa had a bad tear with a large baby but large baby doesnt = tear/cut. I was cut with my smallest baby (7lb 10oz) and my others I had grazes - 8lb 11 and 8lb 4.5.

To avoid tearing the baby needs to be born slowly and gently.....so when the MW says pant ie dont push, then pant to slow things down so you can stretch slowly.

I agree. My damage was not down to Evie being big (she was 8lb 13oz) but because it was an uncontrolled birth and I had no MW to tell me to stop pushing as she had left the room (she didn't think Evie was anywhere near ready to come out and she came out far too quickly). I have friends that've had big babies and didn't tear or need intervention, but if my MW tells me next time (if I can have another the same way) that I need to be cut I'm going to go with it as a really bad tear is not nice - although saying that I've no idea what it's like to be cut either

I had a graze with my first, he was 7oz 10lbs - not enough for stitch but i did the old massage from about 34 weeks. Didn't do with second two, although middle one was small my third was 8oz 11lbs and i didn't graze or tear - so i suppose once you have stretched your bits once your less likely to tear second time! I will be massaging again this time as its nearly 7 years since my last and may be a bit of a shock. I think as the ladies have said listening to your mw is the most important thing as she will guide you through so you don't tear too badly if at all.

Completely agree with Lisa, waste of money x I wasn't cut-they asked me and I said no-good job really as she wasn't a big baby (6lb 5oz) so it would of been completely unneeded! x I would refuse one again as I heal really quickly and think they're a little pointless x

And my baby came up VERY fast but I resisted pushing and fortunately I had my MW there to guide me and birth her gently :)

Maybe i won't be massaging after all:dance:
Having a home birth too so hopefully it will be nice and chilled - i am normally in control during labour and listen well - my thoughts are that the mw knows what she is talking about and i'm gonna listen!
Was also reading about watching in a mirror - did you consider that? I fet my babies head the last time and cut the cord but watching would be ace - although i wouldn't want pics!

I wish I'd had all my babies at home - its a wonderful experience.

My MW offered a mirror but TBH it's something that doesnt appeal to me at all. :)

I'm so jealous :) You had such a lovely experience and no tear afterwards. I so wish mine had been like this. Mine will be remembered for all the wrong reasons which is such a shame as my labour up until the last 5 mins was wonderful

Why did the mw leave when you were so close to giving birth? You've only got to look at your daughter and it makes it all alright though - she is gorgeous!

Aww thanks for saying that. She does make me feel better everyday :)

I was only given one MW as my labour was going so well. I had tested positive to strep B so had to have anti-biotics through my drip during labour to keep baby safe. I'd been pushing for about 40 mins when she checked me and said baby was nowhere near ready to come out so she was 'popping out' to get me some more anti-biotics as I'd run out. On the next contraction I pushed and Evie's head and shoulders came out! I got another so pushed again and half her body came, my MW then came back in and Evie was born :oooo:

It was awful as she wasn't breathing properly and was taken away straight away and I got taken to theatre so my poor OH had a double whammy. It all had a very happy ending though as Evie was fine after 24hrs and all the damage I had I'm happy to say has gone and I'm pretty much back to normal down there, although I have to be a little careful when I cough if I need a wee

you'd feel like a bit of a wolly, you have to leave it in for 10 minutes. They suggest relaxing by reading a book or listening to music. Can you imagine if someone walked in on you....

I just cant spend £90 on something unless its proven to be of real benefit.... Im just really scared of tearing and I am sooooo not okay with the who episiotomy thing!

 at the thought of someone walking in - how would you explain that one!? i'd panic, stand up and it would just be there on the floor. lmao!!! (i think too much into stuff)

yeah i think it seems like a waste of money and it is kinda promoted towards people who have a few problems in pregnancy.. it seemed that way anyway.

you always find stuff on the net tiny how do you do it!?! lol :) xxx
