Just resting up at home and thought I'd share a nice positive birth story with you all.
This was my second birth and since my first was 9days overdue, it was a big surprise to go into labour on my due date! I started with the not so regular but stronger than my usual BH contractions at 9am on the 26th and after a low key day of supermarket shopping and a bit of tidying they were slowly getting closer together and stronger. We managed to get our 2yr old to bed and I got a rest and watched some TV before I started getting a contraction every 3-5 min at which point we decided to go in to hospital at 1.30am (MIL stayed to babysit).
The labour ward was very quiet and we got the pool room I wanted (hurray!) and I found out I was 5cm at that point. We had a lovely midwife who was very relaxed and low key who filled the pool for me and set up the G&A that I needed. It was all very relaxing and within about 3h I wanted to push and baby Leo was born just 22min later at 4.52am! 8lb 9oz and no grazes or tears and his cord was left for over 15min while we both recovered. I got my natural 3rd stage too. We got home about 8am that morning, just in time to introduce our toddler to her new little brother.
It really went amazingly well and couldn't have been a better experience (though I think I'll happily wait another couple of years before trying it again!) I feel very lucky and feel it just shows how staying relaxed and the right people supporting you can make a big difference to the experience. X
