Hi

Do you girls have all sorts of body parts getting wedged up under or around their ribs? I get it all the time as the baby is lying with it's legs and bum up there.

Now, I'm not sure if I should be doing this but I quite regularly 'push' the baby down when it gets really uncomfortable. I don't do it forcefully but I'm just a bit concerned that I shouldn't be doing this just incase I hurt s/he.

Does anyone know if it is alright to do this or am hurting the LO?

I get that all the time and quite regularly grab what I feel as being a foot or a leg, I dont think you will be hurting baby, theres plenty of padding inside so dont worry. It is quite uncomfortable at times and I regularly push baby back down.

Considering the way MW's palpate the stomach to determine how baby is laying, a little shove from you isn't going to do anything! My MW pushes and shoves and digs around at every antenatal - it's fine! Baby is very protected in there. Even sonographers digging in their probes to see anatomy is very hard pressure on your bump, not a problem!

babies bum is rite in my rib cage at the mo, can be so uncomfy :x

Oh God I had this the other night! Woke up at 2am in absolute agony under my ribs and across my back - could barely breathe, couldn't find a position that was comfortable, really started to panic, I was in tears it was so painful. Just had to breathe through the pain - good practice for labour! I was also suffering with an infected wisdom tooth (which was extracted yesterday!), so not been a good week! :( I'll try and push him out the way if he tries it again!

Tally may have her bum in the air but she's not on my ribs yet, she tends to stick one foot out my side and one high up, but missing ribs and i always push them back in as its a little uncomfortable.

I love messing around with her and where she is and poking her little limbs (i know it sounds mean lol) but its nice to know where she is and what bits what etc

I get the same not nice is it? Don't think a little prod will hurt :D xx

Good news that I'm not being a nasty mammy

I got concerned after someone in work passed and asked what I was doing. The pure horror on their face when I explained made me a bit anxious. Good to know I can still give LO a nudge when I need to!

I do it too ...don't worry. :D

I agree with the comment about the midwife's ....they are 1o times rougher than I'd ever be and obv they know what they are doing and wouldn't hurt our Lo's.
