As you know I am now preg following mc and the doc a couple of weeks was nice but kinda dismissive and although he has promised me an early scan, I'll be around 9 weeks by the time that happens and it feels too long.

I've got an appointment with another doc this morning at 11:30am - I want to make it clear how concerned I am that everything is progressing normally and want to ask to have the scan next week when I am 7 weeks rather than in 3 weeks when I am 9 weeks. I feel I need the peace of mind of seeing a heartbeat after last time.

What did you say to your doc to prompt them into booking you an early scan and how early was your early scan?

I didn't get offered an early scan by my doc. He basically told me to disregard the last pregnancy and that chances are it will be fine. I tried to impress just how worried I am but he was having none of it.

I'm going back today after my d&v episode last night and I'm going to mention again about it.

I would wait as long as you can to get the scan though because if it's inconclusive the waiting is horrendous.

hey huhn, i didnt even have to ask either time, last time and this time they told me to come for scan at 7 weeks earliest.

I would make it clear how stressed out you are and that its affecting your everyday life. i hope you get a better Dr who is more understanding :)

see when i spoke to my midwife she said i can have my scan at 13 weeks and then i could hear the heart beat on my next midwife appointment which inst until the 29th September which is so far away! i'm a typical worrier when my nausea stopped for a couple of days i as like is the baby ok cuz i'm not throwing up i even did a pregnancy test to make sure! (completly paranoid) , i think you just need to take every day as it comes and try not to stress too much but if you do want an earlier scan then make it known to your midwife/ doctor because your need are top priority at the moment and it might put your mind at ease if you know everything is ok!

i know i'm only 11 weeks gone but i swear i have put on more weight than i should of done, had midwife check and she says i've lost weight but then the baby could of put on weight (whihc is good) but i'm definatley bigger than what i was last week when i had doctors appointment!

any one else starting to show or be a little bit bigger than what they thought you would be?

i didnt ask, i bled and got crampy and thot i was losing!! but shes here now! large as life! xxx

I didnt get an early scan at all after my mc. My first one was on friday. I think different areas have different policies. Its definitely worth asking - and telling them how stressed you are - if you dont ask you dont get.

But if you've only had 1mc it doesnt make ur risk for a second very much higher than somone how hasnt had one - and for this reason some areas wont give early scans after only one mc. Guess it depends on how busy the units are and if they can fit you in. Sorry to put a downer on things.

Good luck.

Hi all,

I was promised an early scan anyway but they've moved it forward so I'll be 7 weeks rather than 9 weeks - am so pleased as once I see a heartbeat I know it will help me relax. x

My doctor said I wasn't allowed an early scan! He said if I was gonna mc then theres nothing we can do. I could've punched him!

Lol at last comment :) so insensative drs!!!
Glad youve got your early scan Annie xx

thats great annie, 7 weeks is perfect time to have first scan as you will get to see heartbeat then you can relax :) not too long to go now. xxxx

i had a scan at 7 weeks this time after my mc last year. i explained at my booking in appointment that i had a weird tinge to the colour of my discharge and she referred me to epu x

This is my first pregnancy and I've been quite anxious about it even though I'm only 8 weeks. I have tired to get a dating scan on the NHS and was told that my first scan would be when I'm 15 weeks! This feels like an age away so I did a bit of research on the net and found a private clinic in Canary Wharf (they also have clinincs in West & North London and Hertfordshire) that offers scans along side your NHS scans from 5 weeks. I am going on Sat when I will be 9+2 (I think) so hope to hear the heartbeat and get a fairly good look at the little one, even if it's just a blob. Perhaps that's worth a try? It is a bit expensive (£75) but I reasoned that it was worth it to stop me going crazy, plus you don't need a referral from the GP. Hope this helps.....

No scan for me they only do it if you have bleeding/cramps/suspected ectopic.

I guess it's a good sign that they don't think there is anything wrong. I'm not too bothered because I was intending to have a private scan anyway.

I had a private scan when I was pregnant with Ella at 7 weeks as I wanted to hear her heartbeat for my own peace of mind- it definitely worked as I was really able to relax after.
