I hope this is the right place. I just started TTC and had been getting positives (between dark and light) on HPT but negative blood work.

I just found out today I am on the cusp of diabetic and may also have PCOS. They want me to start Metformin I believe it is called. I am so bummed right now.

Does anyone else have to take this or anything similar? Is this going to interfere with TTC? :(

@GeekMaker - i am sorry hun :( i don't have any advice for you at all but i just want to let you know i am here if you ever need a chat, you know that though already <3
I really do hope you get your bfp very soon xx

Thank you so much. This isn't what I wanted to hear but it is good I know because if I want to continue TTC I need to make some changes for all of this.

I think @Sugarpop has some experience with those, send her a message!

I'm sad that you got bad news about your bloodworks, but that can easily be reversed with a diet! Chin up! It will happen!x

Well done for keeping optimistic even when it's hard. I know it feels like a shock now but remind yourself that with all the information you're actually in a better place in your TTC journey. I can't give you much specific advice but just want to say good luck I hope it helps you get your Bfp soon.

Sorry to hear that GeekMaker but I’m glad you’re finally getting some answers.

Oh lovely, firstly hello, I'm new here - secondly I'm sorry, but as others have said, at least you can make changes and know a little more about this mysterious thing that is your body! Best of luck TTC x

Atleast you have some answers as to whats going on with your body and cycles etc and as ever, heres what i say to every woman 'there is every chance you will fall pregnant regardless of what medical conditions you have' and i will always stand by this and i would think most people on here would agree with me.

There are a few members on here with PCOS, it does seem quite common among woman actually. My sister has it and has a gorgeous little girl <3 so pcos definitely wont stop you from falling pregnant.

As for the diabetic side of it, this can be controlled and managed.

Your ttc journey can continue as you are, just being conscious of your health etc - but that little bean will come when its ready <3

Thank you so much. You ladies are amazing you know that? <3 And my husband has been helping me figure things out like diet and stuff. I already was going to be working on this and (very slowly I admit) have so that is a good thing at least for the pre diabetes part.

For PCOS I am hoping to get a definitive answer next week at the OBGYN but we will see. That is up in the air.

But now I have more motivation to get in gear, on that treadmill and eating better at a faster pace. I honestly was really prolonging it.

Again thank you for helping me, listening (er...reading lol), and encouraging me so much. It means a ton!

Ok, so...

Pre-diabetes - this just means your levels are slightly high. HOWEVER, you need to ask for a HBA1C. This will give your average of the last 3 months. No GP should be saying this without that blood test. Your fasting test COULD have been on a morning after you had eaten carb heavy and therefore not accurate.

Please please ask for this! You will then get a definite answer and know how much work you need to do to get it under control.

If you are confirmed as pre diabetic I suggest you go for a low carb option. Sometimes this is all it needs. You are considered diabetic if you have a HBA1C of 48+. Presiabetic could be 40, or completely depends on your NHS department.

Metformin - this is pretty standard for PCOS or suspected PCOS. It can also treat diabetes and once your body gets used to it the side effects tend to be minimal (mine was an odd one!). PCOS and diabetes can often go hand in hand.

PCOS - it’s a bitch for sure. BUt there are treatment. For many, metformin is enough. For others you can try chlomid & letrozole. It makes it harder but definitely not impossible. The main thing is to get your cycle regular and this can be done!

Now I feel like an expert in something!!

Hi lovely,

I have PCOS, there are a couple of different types and one does affect the way your body deals with insulin and sugars etc so the two do often go hand in hand. I know that there is also a higher risk of developing diabetes during pregnant if you are.

I think metformin can actually help some people with pcos conceive so maybe it’s good thing!

Hopefully the dr will talk it through with you and you get some answers to your questions xx

Okay oh my gosh I have to give you props thank you! I have been wondering to be honest... why was my blood sugar okay (got it done in October..mid October!) and then all of a sudden its not? Granted I was not fasting then but I have only eaten BETTER since then not worse.

The night before I admit I binged on peanut butter m&m's and had pasta for dinner. I did fast and it was about 11 hours after eating before I got the labs done. I still want to ditch the bad eating dont get me wrong, but I was wondering if what I had the night before affected it. Plus I also vape (I am cutting down on nicotine to quit though) and read that nicotine (I do 3mg vape) can affect blood sugar levels too.

Sorry if this is a lot just I feel like you totally get this even if I suck at wording it lol

I have a wellness exam with my GP in April so was going to ask if I could try getting healthier before the Metformin and also wait to see what the OBGYN (who ordered these bloods) says about my cyst thats been there quite awhile.

I always thought PCOS meant multiple cysts on ovaries but this has not ever been detected on me. Just this one cyst. Could I still have it or something?

I think I’d your blood is giving them an idea of PCOS it’s probably a hormone imbalance. I don’t have any cysts in my ovaries but they do look different and my blood shows the imbalance. I think you just need to speak to them and ask that question.

I dont understand if they said my other blood work was fine (hormonal) why theyd even say that. Interesting. They even told me my other levels were just fine. Thanks for giving so much input.
