My boy has just been diagosed with this after i whinged at the doctor for a couple of months - he is now taking me seriously....

Just wondered if there are any mums out there who's babies have the same thing that i can talk too???

Someone who is lactose intolerance is unable to digest lactose (the sugar found in milk).

Jessika, sorry I don't have experience of this - what symptoms did your wee boy have? Are you giving him soya milk or treating his milk with an enzyme?

Hiya, my daughter was diagnosed lactose and soya intolerant at 12 weeks old, it was a real battle to get the docs to listen, They prescribed pregestamil for het which is a milk substitute that we fed and cooked with until she was 2 years old. She was a little small for her age but is catching up and now, nearly 5, is the picture of health and can take milk and soya. It's a relief to get the diagnosis because once their milk is changed they become so much more settled. Make sure his diet is varied and you screen his foods for stuff containing milk because you'd be suprised! And talk to your HV she will be able to give you some advice. Most children will grow out of it by the time they are 2.
If you've got any ?'s feel free to ask, I will try and answer them for u. XX

thanks very much, what a nightmare.

the docs were very unsuportive to start with, they just told me to cut out milk for 2 weeks and put him on Wysoy and see how he goes...he was like a different baby so have kept him on it, back to docs on Wed so may see if they can prescribe the milk, at least we dont think he is intolerant to soy also

the thing that annoys me the most is that my brother had severe intolerances at the same age until he was five so the only person to believe me was my mum as she had already been through it!

Any tips on cooking would be appreciated, i try to cook all of his food from scratch but this is becoming more and more difficulf as so many foods are no longer allowed!

All three of my boys are intolerent (and they reckon it's not genetic  ). We find that we can get away with most foods, it's only when they have a lot of milk in the diet that they get symptoms. Yoghurts, rice pudd, ice cream and stuff like that are out of the window but we still have stuff that has little bits of dairy in it. We've adjusted the diet of the whole family rather than doing separate stuff. We cooked Daniels stuff spearately when he was small, but with 3 of them, it's easier if we all have the same. We used to make recipes up with soya instead of normal milk, but it tastes horrid. We use goats cheese as a replacement - it still causes symptoms but they can have a lot more goats cheese than cows cheese before they start. WE've also found that they can cope with semi skimmed / skimmed a lot better than full fat normal milk - HV tells us off, but in stuff like mash it's better than nothing (goats milk and soya make mash horrible)

We had the same problems getting them diagnosed (my mum pushed because all the boys on my side have been the same). Even with Alex, it took us weeks for them to agree.
