:) January 2018 Mummy's thread

My friend had Seren which is welsh for star. Really suited her beautuful little girl xxx

Morning ladies!

So I am sat in an office today (I am freelance so work all over the place) and I think I just felt the baby properly kick for the first time! I am 18+1 today. It felt like I was sort of being poked or flicked from the inside. It was subtle but I felt it at least 3 times. It's just below my belly button. Does that sound right to you?

Up until now I've just felt flutters and gas bubbles. The thought that it might actually have been a proper kick has got me emotional - I had tears in my eyes but was trying not to let it show!!

Ive had a similar sensation :) like a thud from the inside. I also got very emotional

20 week scan went well; baby cooking nicely and I resisted the urge to find out gender!! Placenta is at the front so she said I may not feel much but I feel it kick loads!! Even seen it as I said before. Maybe it's got super strong legs haha x

I couldn't believe it! I thought it would be another couple of weeks before I felt anything! It's so weird but I was so excited and emotional when it happened! I had to run out and call my OH!

That's exactly what and where I've been feeling the strongest kicks, right under my belly button, it's like being poked from the insid, such an odd feeling  lol I also have felt 4 of the strongest kicks from the outside when I've been resting my hand in just the right spot

My next scan is Friday too! Sure you'll have nothing to worry about. My scans and appointments have always fallen quite well with me being concerned or having worries, then going and being reassured. Just got a long wait till my next midwife appointment, 9th October! X

I almost changed my mind on the way to the scan about finding out!! My husband has more will power than me and persuaded me not to haha!!

Scan was good - little madam wouldn't hold still or stay the way they needed but we got there in the end. So glad we had private gender scan as she was in such an unhelpful position, they cautiously said girl - but as we'd already found out, they were a bit more confident she is a she!

Fortunately, my placenta is well out the way of the exit for baby so that's a relief. Apparently, once they're out the way they normally stay out the way, so I won't need to be scanned later on.

Just booked my Whooping Cough vaccine for next week, and need to phone back at the end of September to book Flu Jab.

My scan went well today, baby is most definitely a he which is great to confirm as it was on Harmony test but had no scan of boy bits! Saw them in all their glory today though which was lovely. He behaved and all measurements were gathered and all is well. Im so excited now, I have booked my leave and Ill be finishing work end of Nov to use up my holidays and have a bit of prep time. It would have been nice to finish as late as I could but with having spd Im worried I wont make it anyway so this was best option.

How long is everyone having off for mat leave? Im having a year and going to go back in Jan 2019- how strange to say that as it seems so far away!!!!?

Im feeling loads of movement and baby has a bit of a pattern too which is nice. Xx

I had 10.5 months off with Zac which was fab. This time though things are going to be very different!

I'm going to try and hold out until 19th December, when we break up for xmas hols. That way, I will get full pay as normal through the xmas hols, until 4th January at which point my Maternity Leave will start. [If baby makes an appearance before the 4th, it'll start on day they're born].

I will then be off on maternity leave until 4th July, roughly 6 months ish. Then my husband is taking over the maternity leave - this option wasn't available to us when we had Zac. My husband works 4 days a week and I work full time.

After 6 months, maternity pay for me is SMP until 9 months. It makes better financial sense for my husband to be off from 6 months as we'll lose less money per month. So OH will be off July until just before October half term.

So, in total it works out about 10.5 months but divided between both of us in a fashion. I just need to work out how to fill in the blinking forms!

I'm also hoping to get baby on the waiting list at the Nursery we've been using for Zachary, ASAP ready for a October 2018 start.

Alipops x

Alipops, although I'm having all of maternity, my dates are the same. I'm going to try and go til end of school term and start maternity 4th Jan and then go back a few days before October half term :)

It's worth doing isn't in Karen for us teacher folk?

I'm not sure how easy it'll be to hold out until 19th December - but I managed to hold out until 20th July with Zachary, he then arrived 3 weeks into the summer hols, 17 days early - so that kind of ruined my plan to get 6 weeks full pay and start maternity leave on 31st August! haha.

I'm also in teaching. I worked until the end of summer term last time and I was 35 weeks. Had Harley at 38. But this time I'm finishing at October half term to start maternity leave weds November 1st, taking the 9months off so I'll have the rest of the school year off. I don't want to struggle at the end and really need to be organised as it's Xmas time and 4 others to sort out. :)

How is our girl / boy ratio doing now? We're excited for scan tomorrow morning , staying team yellow! Standing firm! Haha , I'll be like you Karen!

Carly what time is your scan? X

Hope you are all well! I'm also getting a scan tomorrow and due to find out what we are having. I keep thinking its a girl because my skins rubbish and i feel like im getting a huge muffin top rather than just a bump but im not sure!!

Its a bit of a winwin for us, a slight preference toward a boy so we can have 2 little boys.. But a girl was funnily enough what we wanted first time round so that would also be lovely. Just hoping baby is nice and healthy. But yes... Intruiged as to if they say anything about baby size since my weight gain is still off the charts high in my opinion!
