We've managed to get James down in his pram rather then our chests so I thought it'd be a good idea to share my birth story whilst I still remember.
In the run up to labour I'd told my hubs that it'd probably be a long drawn out process with lots of waiting so we were both surprised by my 6 hour labour!
I was woken up with a pain at about 1am on Sunday morning, had diarrhea so thought it was just that but then realised I was leaking fluid. Rang mum then hospital, and had contractions straight away. I couldn't believe how much they hurt and how frequent they were!
Got to the birthing centre where I was examined and declared to be 4cm, I couldn't believe it! The midwife had a good old rummage ugh. They left me to get on with it for a bit and I soon asked for gas and air, which i LOVED although it made me sick.
Got in the pool at about 5am and started involuntarily pushing, weirdest sensation ever. I wasn't happy with my pushing and decided to get out. They checked me and I was fully dilated, that's when I stood up and noticed poo in my waters ;( so off I was rushed to delivery suite.
I was getting really tired and frustrated with pushing, and asked for help. They sent for doctors who suggested we used the ventouse suction cap. By this point I was falling asleep between contractions and getting stubborn, refusing to push (haha!). The cap was a bit distressing as it kept popping off James's head but it was what I needed to get him out. I ended up with an episiotomy, something I'd been really scared of but I didn't feel them doing it. I also tore in a couple of places.
I had an amazing gas and air conversation with an Iranian doctor who stitched me about how Iran are doing in the World Cup. Stitching was definitely the worst part, I got terrible cramp in my calves in the stirrups and they wouldn't let me put my legs down whilst they had their hands god knows where
I feel a bit disappointed that I let the contractions scare me and demanded help but I'm proud that I pushed him out without gas and air (got it back again for stitching) and at the end of the day it was all worth it for James. He was born at 7.40 am weighing 8lb 1oz.
Wow that was long, if you got to the end, well done! xx
