As I watch my little one stirr tonight I still can't get bringing this little man into the world out from my head so have decided to do my birth story.
Monday morning of 7th January I had went to my antenatal clinic to be told that I was heading in for induction on Tuesday. I had thought it was the Wednesday but hadn't been informed I had to go in a day early to get started.
Anyway, off we went to the hospital on Tuesday 7th January. I think I had everything with me barr the cats LOL. OH said that he felt like we were on OBEM getting to the ward with all my stuff and being led to my little room.
By 4pm they had me on trace for an hour which was Percy and inserted first round of pessary. I was told by my community MW I would probably need the two rounds of pessary as my cervix was quite stubborn.
By the evening visiting I had quite a bit of cramping. My mum and OH had come and my mum said she thought I'd go tonight just because of how restless I was. By the time visiting had finished I had to go get some codeine for the pain. I had tried to stick it out as much as possible. Got the tablets and a heat pack which... Helped a bit I guess. The pain started getting worse so was put on trace again and left which I hated because by this point I was in quite a bit of pain, I was alone and hooked upto a machine so couldn't pace it out I just lay there and breathed through it. MW came in and said I had been contracting and they were really close together, I was getting no peace. I went for a shower which made things even worse. I ended up in the shower room on all fours crying, not knowing what the hell to do. I managed to get back to my room and asked to be checked and was told 1cm dilated I was in agony so was offered dimorphine which I loved. I was bent over bed breathing out contractions and MW was rubbing my back. I finally got some sleep about 12pm. By 2am my contractions had woken me up I remember waking up moaning every now and then. MW came in and said that I'd need to wait 4 hours for another dose. I tried to get back to sleep and couldn't. I the end up the pain was just too much and was moaning away so MW came in and asked to check me. I went to roll round and felt a pop but thought nothing of it. Felt myself down below and was drenched so told MW I think waters had went she was just prepping to check me. I was 5cm dilated at 2.30am and waters had gone so got OH on the phone and was wheeled to delivery. I got there climbed on the bed and MW helped me breathe through contractions till about 3am then I went onto the G&A. OH arrived around 3.30. By this point I don't even know how often the contractions were coming but I knew I was near as contractions had died down which MW said would happen. I felt ready to push at that point and was told not too for what seemed like ages but this was obviously things being a bit hazy with gas and air. I eventually asked to be checked and told 10cm so said I wanted to push. I started pushing and tbh it felt like I wasn't pushing that long. MWs were encouraging, to my dislike apparently I was shouting I am fucking pushing LOL. I was über nice to OH he was expecting hell but I was stroking his hand and letting him stroke my head and he handled my gas and air as I felt that the MWs just kept giving me it when i didnt need it and could feel myself just getting really out of it. Finally at 4.26 on Wednesday 9th January 2013, 13 days over due might I add! Jackson Derek Agnew was here. He was so quiet and lay on my chest. OH cut the chord and he was moved away to be checked over. He didn't make a peep for ages and I got scared but he was just being the lazy lazy boy that he is. He was totally alert and focused on me mainly. My baby weighed 7lbs 3obz. I had gotten an episiotomy, 2nd degree tear and some grazes. I was getting stitched for quite a while actually but didn't feel anything. My mum was allowed in after as she had been outside in the car for hours.
For me, my induction was great. I had expected to go on the drip and to be in labour for like 3 days. The only thing I didn't like about my labour was the fact I had to go through early labour alone and wait it out but in the end I ended up sleeping from 1-5cm so wasn't all bad!
I just love my little munchkin. People always say you forget the pain. I certainly won't forget the agony I was in throughout early labour but from those last few hours were great. My wee man didn't take his time about coming and according to my book my active labour was 11 mins.
I'm healing good. Haven't been on this in a while but thought since I was wide awake at this time I'd post it whilst I still remembered it.
Hope my induction story is a positive one for others as I know I was shitting myself. I didn't have the most favourable cervix so expected to be on drip. But after two rounds of pessary and a total 9 hours of labour my little man was here.
