Hey everyone,
just wanted to update on the labour and baby.
it was only when i left to go to the hosp did i realise... i didnt have a text buddy
CTG scan showed every time i had a contraction baby's heart rate dropped to 120 ish, so the decided on the 1st Dec to induce me. They took me upstairs to the delivery suit and broke my waters at 4pm and i was 3-4cm dilated. I was still hooked up to the CTG machine to monitor baby's heartbeat, still having regular contractions, pain was okay at this point.
At 4.45pm I had a saline drip put in and they rolled me onto my left side to try and monitor baby's heartbeat better. I had my 1st stage of pain relief as the contractions was starting to really hurt so they gave me two paracetamol at 5.15pm and after just 15 minutes i was on the gas and air at 5.30pm. The midwife checked again to see how far i was dilated which had improved to 5-6cm. The midwife then attached a trace to baby's head as the external heart monitor couldn't pick up baby's heartbeat.
The pain was becoming really hard to get through and the gas and air wasn't enough the midwife offered me an epiedural or diomorphine. She reccomened the epiedural as with the babys heartbeat dropping it would be advised to send baby to sleep. So i decided to go for the epiedural the anthisist came in and got everything ready and moved me to the edge of the bed to get access to my back. But i was ready to push!
The midwife check me again and i was fully dilated so i was flipped back onto my back and legs in the air. A few pushes later and a fair bit of gas and air and baby was here!
Born at 6.51pm on the 1st December 2010 baby Layla Emily Collins was here and weighs 8 lb 4oz
After having some skin to skin contact with Layla the midwife check out my downstairs, I had to have 10 stitches all superficial some were abit tricky so the Doc came in to stitch me up with only gas and air as pain relief. This honestly hurt more than the labour! the 2nd degree tear is from the tracer they put on her head to be able to monitor her heartbeat, it was also my fault for pushing when i "wasnt ready" but i really was!! it starts at the top of my labia on the right, all the way down with a flap shaped like a "8" where the tracer clip got stuck.
Had a bath after which was so nice I didn't want to come out! Then they wheeled me and Layla and hubby down to the ward. I wanted to go home but due to concerns they had over Layla's heartbeat and my contractions I had to stay overnight. I couldn't sleep from all the adrenaline and the high after giving birth.
Me and Layla shared our 1st breastfeeding time during the night and it was a truly memorable experience. Hubby had to go home to get some sleep as he would only had an arm chair to sleep in if he stayed, the ward was full to bursting with mummys and newborns, and as soon as one little angel cried, so did all the 13bays, which all were full of 4 mums n babies!!!
The next morning hubby arrived and the midwife showed us how to bath our baby's, the phyiso came round to explain about different exercises to do to help recovery and the peadiation came to check over Layla with just a small concern over a little rash on her cheeks.
Eventually we all were aloud home on thursday about 6.30pm,
midwife came out yesterday and today to weigh her and see if she is latching on better, she was struggling to suck hard enuf to get anything out, so i remembered i had against my own better udgement bought some dummies and decided to try her with that to calm her at night cos all she did was scream for hours solidly,
but through lastnite fri to sat, she has fed every 2 hrs, dont b put off if it hurts or u feel like u want to give up with it, cos i did and the dummy that i hated buying, has saved our sanity & breastfeeding!
thank u all sooo much for your comments and things, uve been fab, and see u all soon with your bundles and il keep looking in at labour watches!!
