Hi there!

I know I don't really need to consider this for a while yet but wanting to get a head start as I am so sure that I don't want a contraceptive with a hormone in it. I don't really like condoms or the idea or femedoms etc so has brought me to IUDs.

I was thinking of getting a IUD inserted after J is born and know that MW will go over any concerns that I have regarding the contraceptions but wanted to get an opinion from any girls that are on here who have had a IUD fitted.

I know that there are pretty similar risks from each contraception but I had noticed that there is a risk of having an ectopic pregnancy with these if you fall pregnant. I have heard of 3 people falling pregnant on the coil and just wanted to know how it worked for you?

Thanks girls!

Hiya. I had a mirena coil. The one that releases progestogen.

I was really nervous about the procedure, but like you, didn't like condoms, the pill etc.

Having it in was fine. But I bled heavily and felt ill for 3 weeks. After week 1' I thought it had moved so went back to clinic, where doc pushed it back up a bit.mfelt ok. Then it started to move again, so went back again. Along with the bleeding and just feeling not right I decided to have it out there and then. I was disappointed, as I really wanted it to work.

I've also had friends who have had it, one as soon as she could after giving birth and she had no probs at all.

I'd say if it appeals, def try it :)

I had the coil before I had Hannah. It worked wonderfully for me apart from very irregular bleeding and they couldn't find it so had to have an op to get it out, but if I hadn't had that unlucky experience with it, I'd have it again.
