Items not worth buying?!

You get 0-6 and so on. They have a weight from which you can use them. I prefer them to blankets as they can't go over babies face. Same with outfits my baby is 7montha and iv brought things she never wore as sleep suits are so much easier and comfortable.

Jumybug try Asda or Tesco they normally have 0-6 month ones :) that's where I got mine from xxx

Grobag do a newborn sleeping bag too with the option to swaddle them or have as an open sleeping bag with their arms out. Great before they go into a proper 0-6 month sleeping bag.
I swear by sleeping bags, puts my mind at ease as blankets just make me on edge about going over babies face.

Oh yes that Grobag one looks really good.. they def do them 0-6 JulyBug so keep searching.. Mothercare or Mamas and Papas 100% do. I think the best advice i've taken is don't feel pressured to buy in everything before baby comes.. the shops will still be there once baby is here! It's then much easier to decide what your baby needs. As long as you have nappies, some basic clothing, somewhere for them to sleep and supplies for feeding/sterilising you're fine for your first few weeks :)

Love this thread!
First time mum and this will defo help lol xx

Good advice KateK, I have been trying to avoid panic buying, thinking I need EVERYTHING now hence why I'm trying to find out what the bare essentials are first! This thread has been very helpful xx

Mothercare have some 0-6 ones on offer xx

Little hooded towels I think are unnecessary. If I get one as a gift I'd use it obviously but I wouldn't buy them personally.

It's all down to personal preference though as items that some swear by and use daily, others would have no need for and think unnecessary.

Agree that it seems to be personal preference - for me I use the hooded towels every day with my 2 year old and 10 month old and I never understand how people can think they aren't big enough! Both my children have a lot of hair so I've always found the hood but useful too x

Just got a 0-6month sleep bag in Tesco for £8 - bargain! :)

I've got a couple of hooded towels. One I bought myself and one that was bought for me. I don't have an opinion yet as first time mummy lol

What about changing tables? What's everyone's opinions? Xxx

I had really painful and weak joints after I gave birth ( due to the hormone relaxin) and found getting up from the floor a bit of a struggle after changing baby, so a changing table might have helped. Mind you, we've not bought one this time round still!

I got one for free and found it great! Especially after a section as I didn't need to bend down. I used it for ages. It kept things tidy too. However now it's used for toy storage so I'm going to be using my chest of drawers instead with the top drawer for nappies etc.

I had a changing table with son and would not recommend them personally, just take up loads of space when you can easily change them on a mat. I do get what some are saying about it helping after section though, if that happens I will just put mat on the bed as my bed is quite high.
Julybug, was that online or instore? xx

In store! They have lots of cheapy bits as it's their baby event ATM, also got a soft cream baby blanket reduced to clear from £6 something to £1.75!! xx

Changing tables - with my first I had a second hand stokke changer and it was great, loads of space for baby and I much preferred standing at baby's feet to change than approaching them side on. In the middle of the night I did tend to have the mat on the living room floor so I could change her without waking my partner in the bedroom where the changer was but it absolutely killed my knees and back. With my son I had moved to a house so I had the stokke changer downstairs which I still use for both children and I had one of the chest of drawers that have the mat section in the top upstairs (second hand again) and I have never used it, I use a mat on the bathroom floor instead when I'm upstairs. I wouldn't recommend spending a lot of money on a changer until you work out what suits you x

I loved having a changing table, mine has shelves so doubles up as storage for nappies/wipes/misc and therefore I didn't feel it was a waste of room. I have bought a mat with curved edges this time round to help prevent rolling accidents, as soon as I know she can roll i'll stop using it. I did also have a mat in the lounge just for convenience during the day. I'd say I used both pretty much the same amount :) If budget's an issue it's definitely something that could go xx

Thanks girlies, we finished decorating her room at the weekend and we haven't got the room for a table lol, so lucky I didn't buy one. Although I guess they would come in handy, just down to personal preference. I've bought a mat for now so hopefully that'll do the trick xx
