Bit of an odd one. Last few days my bump has been feeling a bit itchy, I've been moisturising with Aveeno and put it down to the skin being stretched beyond belief. Last night those it got unbearable, woke me up a couple of times. I've noticed it's really warm, hot to touch. I've slathered more cream on but I need mittens to stop me rubbing it. Never had anything like this with my son, is it just a case of sucking it up or has anyone else had something similar and found a better cure?
Thanks x

Dunno about it being hot but itching could be it stretching as you say
I give mine a good scratch daily i know that much
Is it looking blotchy or a rash anywhere at all?
Ring your mw if youre at all worried its more
Are your hands and feet itching??

You could be allergic to the aveeno. Or your skin is that sensitive it's irritating it. If in doubt call your antenatal unit xx

Hands and feet aren't itching. Perhaps it is a reaction to the Aveeno, hasn't happened before though. I'm letting some air get to it now which is helping.

Aveeno is rare to be something youd be allergic too
Its for eczema etc is it not?

Try a different cream for today... Or go wash your stomach and leave it with nothing on for a few hours see if the itching stops, if it does it will be the cream! xxx

My bump has been hot and itchy recently (not quite as bad as you describe) but quite sensitive too - like the skin is so stretched it stings if something sharp touches it (like hubby's chin stubble ) Aveeno normally provides relief for me - I also sleep with my nightie up and fan pointed at bare bump :)
Xxx

My bump has been itchy recently and I mentioned it to midwife on Wednesday and she said she expected it. I also sleep with fan on facing bump and it really helps me to sleep, also use aveeno cream xxxx

Do you have a red, bumpy rash? It could be polymorphic eruption of pregnancy; totally harmless to you and baby but utterly horrid to have. It is most common in the third trimester and generally starts in the stretch marks on the abdomen. It's the most common rash in pregnancy (affects about 1 in every 100 pregnancies) but, and I hate to say it, but midwives are very uneducated about it and often palm it off as generalised pregnancy itching.... Google it for pics and see what you think xx

Thanks for this, had a look but I don't have the rash. Had bloods done to rule out OC but my hands, arms and feet are still so itchy, started to get little blisters, got a couple on my palms and some on the sides of my feet, they are clear and quite small but definitely blisters. Just trying to keep as cool as possible.

It sounds like it could be the start of PUPP, I never had it but a girl on here had it when I was expecting my first. Worth a Google.xx

Oh bless you. To confirm, PUPPP is the old name for PEP (polymorphic eruption of pregnancy) so if you've already ruled it out hopefully it's not that, but my PEP/PUPPP rash was teeny blisters and not as severe as the web images show (always terrifying/images there!! :)). Either way, the only thing I can suggest at this point aside from anti histamines would be cooling menth aqueous cream, and cool showers with Grandpa's pine tar soap; stinks when you lather it but it doesn't linger once washed off. Good luck honey xx

I will try these remedies, thank you. I need to do something it's driving me insane and I can't always reach my feet to itch haha! Xx

Gilly I had this when pregnant with my twins it started on my tummy then spread to hands and feet then just to hands and mainly feet. My midwife said it was my skin stretching but after I delivered my babies I had bloods done and my midwife I had in hospital said I'd had oc even though my community midwife had said it couldn't be. I would ask for repeat bloods just in case but may not actually be the case for you hun but better to check as sometimes they aren't high enough early on. I found ice cold showers on my feet were the only way of cooling it. Cream didn't really work for me at all. It went immediately after birth, I had it for around 4 weeks it was awful xxx

Thanks Louise, I never realised they were the same thing, just remember reading about it on here a while ago.xx

Thanks caseysmummy, my bloods came back as '3' which they said was fine. I feel like I'm being a pain if I mention it to the mw as they've said it's just the heat now. Got the consultant next Wedns so will mention it again then. I've scratched the skin off the back and side of my left foot which hasn't helped as now it's sore and itchy! Need some bloody mittens! :) xx

No, it's confusing! :) bloody horrible no matter which term is used though.... Well done you on remembering though as most people have never heard of it yet it's the most common rash in pregnancy and some poor gals suffer so badly with it it can lead to early induction. Not one of my midwives had even ever heard of it.....

Have you spoken to your GP or just your MW? MWs aren't routinely trained in pregnancy-related skin conditions (and yep, sad as I am I have checked this with the royal college of mws as I was so shocked at the lack of knowledge on pregnancy-related skin issues and was fobbed off with 'it's just stretching' or 'heat rash' for about three weeks before my Aunt (doc) stepped in) so I would try your GP first, and then give the consultant a good grilling on it when you have your apt. Good luck xxx

Thanks again Louise. I will pop in to see my GP tomorrow and ask. X
