Ok I'm baffled, confused etc.

Layla has been fine for a while with her poop. I've begun to see changes in it which are perfectly normal through the transition from breastmilk to formula etc etc until last night.

Before bed, I changed her and there was a suprisingly "smallish" but "hard" poop??? I say hard, but in terms of baby poop - this was more like an oval shaped pebble type? It's difficult to explain but I hope I'm making sense?

She also had a bigger one this morning? It has also lost the mustard-y type colouring and gone sort of two-tone in colour medium/dark brown.

Is this normal? She does strain a little bit, but not in the sense of it causing her pain or anything.

I am "weaning" her in the sense that she is having baby porridge in the morning mixed with 2-3oz milk and then for lunch, and dinner she will have either tastes of jar baby veggies or home steamed veggies (which i've ice-cubed and frozen). However, it was her first try last night of some swede - she had 2 small ice-cubes of that (about 2 teaspoons worth). She also has the Tesco Value fromage frais pots - 1 or 2 a day.

Any ideas? xx

I'm not 100% but think it might be normal when they are being weaned, but might be worth checking with a HV?

Do you give water in case it's due to constipation?

Yeah she has a bit of water each day too, mainly after the "food" to sort of "wash it down" so to speak. It seems to be the only time she will take water. She struggles with it as its much thinner than the milk (at least it seems that way) but i'd say she rarely takes more than 2oz water a day if that :-/ xx

Sounds like she needs some water, although check with your hv if your worried. Zac had this when I moved him to formula and when I started weaning. I gave him a bottle of water/juice until he started going properly, although now he is on solids his poos are like this most of the time xxx

Maybe her body is just changing the way it digests now that she's having more 'solids'. Oz has cereal everyday and yesterday we started him on pureed veg, so I'm gonna be waiting over the next few days/week to see if does any proper little poops lol

I can't get much water down him though, he seemed to be taking some over the last few days, but yesterday each mouthful he spat out in shock and disgust lol

thanks hun, how much water do you think she should have and when? should i try and see if she can take "x" amount of oz in one go? xx

aaawww, it is an exciting time trying them out on new things huh? i'm staying clear of meats etc with Layla though until she is over 6 months though. Told doc that and he agreed.

Will monitor her poop today and if the same will contact HV (not that she's been much help so far :-( ) xx

Islas was/is the same. Like pebbles, or tiddlywinks!

Try not to worry, when I started weaning ella onto solids she went for days without pooing and from then on her poos have been proper little ones. Hv said it was normal, just her digestive system adjusting :)

It's mad huh? Just seemed like a sudden change cos yesterday morning she had a normal "pastey" one lol.

I've done my usual trick of searching on google and all i'm coming up with is constipation :-(

Trust it all to happen on a bank holiday lol xx

Similar situation here! Isla's done two of those 'pebble' poos since we started weaning but then the next one will be much bigger and mushier (lovely!).

I think it's all normal as their bowels get used to all the new stuff going in!

That I think you are right about that hun lol. Back to another "normal mushy/pastey" poop just now lol ;-) xx

When zac was suffering I gave him a bottle of about 5 oz in one go. I try to make sure he has 1-2oz with every meal of solids xxx

If it comes back again like that I will try 5oz (if she'll take it) She's managed the 1oz today so far.

Thanks hun :) xx

Same here hun. I was expecting them to go mental at me cos I started weaning Layla @ 4 months... got nothing. Just oh, um and yeah. Not even any info about it. Honestly, I know I shouldn't do it as much as I do but if it weren't for Google and PF (of course!) I really don't know what I'd do! xx

Totally agree with you. The last time I got Oz weighed they told me there will be a local weaning class in a few months time... er cheers for the vagueness lol. If it doesn't happen for even 4 months it's a bit late. There's so few places to actually go for professional advice. Thank god for other mummies

Bit like this Munchkin? And yes, we took a photo of her first proper pooh, it's going straight in the album
