Is it strange to use a distinctly foreign name?

I really like the boys name Dimitri but it is clearly Russian and i have no connection to Russia at all.

I know that lots of typical names originate from all over the world, but many aren't very obvious anymore.

I kind of feel that people might ask what the connection to Russia is, when there isn't one

No, I think it's fine to have a foreign name without any real connection.. There are so many foreign names that are so common now that people don't even know, Jennifer is a german name, and I have no connection to Germany  in a few years I would say there would be a lot more names that may be unique now.. Will become more common, if you love the name go for it, I think it's lovely xx

Thats's a lovely name , I would not worry about a foreign name either, I always really liked Xavier , but OH poo pooed it!

As it turns out OH pooed Dimitri and about 80% of the list i made... then i asked him to produce 3 boys names and 3 girls names and he spent ages complaining about being "put on the spot" and he came out with names like Sally and Sandra!!!

(sorry if anyone reading this loves those names :oooo:)

I'm not russian but i gave two russian names to my daughters :D

However, i am Serbian so i do have a bit of connection and those names sound ''ok'' in both my and english language.

as long as the name doesnt sound too far out i'd name my child.. i wouldnt have Carlos for a boy but Stefan,Lucas Dimitri etc sound good in most languages

oh what shame, why are some men soo stuck in the dark ages!

My boys name Devon, OH was not interested to start with, but couldn't come up with anything else, we have had the name last the test of time with me now fork 8.5 years since my daughter was a girl and not boy, and so he is used to it, and knows that's the final name. maybee choose a name and keep using it so he gets used to it, and then after all your labour and effort, he will go with you on the day!!!

I don't think it matters. I like Miguel, Sophia, Henriette, although I don't think hubby likes them, humph!
