Most ppl that have said its a girls name or know a girl called Ellis r up here in Scotland so my poor boy would probably b the odd one out! We really like it but i would hate for him 2 get picked on if its more a girls name up here. x

I'm in Scotland too and know a little girl called Ellis. I prefer it as a boys name though, I'm sure he wouldn't get picked on hun cause it's not a girly sounding name x

I actually think it says more surname to me than anything.

If i heard someone being called it, i think i'd assume it was a nickname based on their surname.

If i had to choose - i think boy.

I see it as an alternative to Alice, but there would be no need in called a girl Ellis when there is Alice for girls so it would be for a boy... imo
