Whats your views on baby showers?

I had a baby shower at the weekend and really enjoyed it!! It was lovely to get all my friends together as it'll prob be one of the last times for a while and I got some lovely gifts! Also played loads of games too like pin the dummy on the baby and baby bottle drinking!! It was so much fun!!

I think they're lovely, but only if you know what you're having.. My SIL is due in 2 weeks and she is team yellow, her sister arranged a surprise one and she found out and stopped her in her tracks She would have ended up with a mad amount of neutral things iykwim? I have been at a few and thought they were fab xx

I am having a joint shower on 16th October with my friend who is due a week before me. Our OHs organised it and finally booked the place yesterday and sent out the invitations! I think it is lovely for my OH and hers too to organise the shower for us - it gave them something to do and feel part of the pregnancy thing!

I would LOVE one, but I'd feel funny organising it myself... I think it's one of those things for other people to do for you, not you do for yourself iykwim?

I won't be having a shower, never had one before, none of my mates have either so it might be a bit strange. (perhaps it's the thought that it makes people feel they have to get a kgift , that puts me off a bit). My close mates will enjoy coming into hosp or round with something afterwards.

I am planning to have my group of mums, hubbys and kids, (our usual bunch, plus some) over for a foody , drinky evening etc , as a "I have left work party in early november!!!! (taking aznnual leave for 4 weeks ! then maternity) as that's well worth celebrating!

I didn't have a shower with DD and won't be having one this time. I'm the same as jjmum, the thought of people having to bring a gift puts me off. Especially since I'm very picky regarding baby stuff! Plus all my friends and family live in Manchester! I'd feel really uncomfortable having one.

I am having a baby shower afternoon tea, i dont want any presents so i have stated this. For me its just getting my friends and family together and have a glass of bubbly and a slice of cake to wet the bubbs head.

Thanks for all your replies ladies....Im arranging one for my friend whos 3 months ahead of me and so some game ideas was a help thanks ladies!

I know what you all mean....my friend is arranging one for me too but I have also stipulated no gifts its just a time to get together and catch up as it may be a while after the baby arrives till I do it again and love the sound of afternoon tea Laus only I know I will get the job of making the cup cakes and sliced cakes....lol!!

I'm not sure! A couple of people have asked, but some people say it's really tacky and American (I don't think it's tacky unless you make it like that!). I do kind of, just because it'd be nice to have some fuss over me for once, lol!! But I def wouldn't do it myself, would feel v strange, so I think I'll jsut see what happens. If someone offers then I'll say yes, but we'll see...!

Baby and Bridal showers are a big part of my culture being from North America. My mom and best friend are throwing me one at a hall on 10th October. Very excited!!!

i wasn't going to have one but yesterday we had arranged to go to lunch with friends and they had secretly planned one for me!!! it was soo lovely of them and wasn't expecting it at all!!!!

Yes it was soooo lovely and such a nice surprise as i wasn't expecting it!!! We had a few games - a quiz, balloon popping etc - cuddled my friends babies and played with their toddlers and had a good old natter and lunch with my friends!! Oh and i've just moved and found some funny pics from our school days which had us all laughing!!!

Oh and one of my friends made a nappy cake which is now sitting on my dining room table!!!

I've done two last year for my friend and sil I really enjoyed it my sil didn't have a clue where as my friend wanted to know everything and
Made a list of presents she wanted!!

I enjoyed them both more so for games and to catch up with friends!!
And it was nice that the day was all about them!!

I hope someone does one for me I would never ask but may be disappointed if I didn't as I put so much effort in for the others x x

Ah I know smess Im the same I go out of my way for others but wouldnt ask anyone to do one for me but I have a great best friend who I can imagine will be arranging one at some point lol!

I'm not having one just coz this is my third and basically have everything in neutral that I want in neutral. Plus I dent have one with the other two. I have always liked the idea of a baby shower but I think people would feel pressured into buying things and not everyone can afford it so I said being team yellow wait till I have baby and buy pink or blue in 0-3 or 3-6 or 6-9 after baby is here that way it's going to be really appreciated rather than another White newborn baby grow lol xx
