Hello, I’m new here  We have been TTC baby number 2 since July last year, my cycles were fairly regular 33-34 days, but since Christmas I have only had 2 periods with a 40 and 50 day cycle and I am currently on cd 56 and I am fairly sure I haven’t ovulated since Christmas. I went to the GP who took some bloods - my TSH came back at 9 which I believe is high and maybe suggests I have an under active thyroid, so the GP is going to seek advice from endocrine and maybe start thyroxine. The GP said my hormone levels looked ok apart from my testosterone level was 2 but she couldn’t really comment because we didn’t really know where I was in my cycle. I’m just wondering if anyone has experienced this and can offer any advice, as I feel this is taking ages with the GP :wall2: and I’m getting impatient lol?

That is high! I don’t know why they’re waiting to speak to anyone. Normally they want your levels to be under 4, and under 2.5 is ideal....

Thanks for your reply. That is what I thought and everything I’ve read online suggests I should be started on thyroxine, I’ll give it until Friday and then make another appointment :wall2: Do you have any experience with this? Do you think I will start ovulating again with thyroxine?

I don’t have any personal experience but I do know that raised tsh levels are associated with poor fertility so fingers crossed it’s the solution you need

Mine was 3.5 when TTC and NHS did not do anything since anything below 4 is considered ok. However, I went to see a private endocrinologist who put me on thyroxine to bring it down under 2 since it does affect fertility and mc risk ( according to him ).

9 is higher than mine and way over 4 so they should definitely put you on Thyroxine. Are you feeling tired? That can be a sign over underactive thyroid.

Taking thyroxine is not a big deal at all. Just a pill or 2 a day with no side effects and you can take it throughout your pregnancy xx

Thanks for that :) I got a call from GP today, they’re going to start me on 50mcg daily for 6 weeks and then recheck bloods. She didn’t seem convinced that this was causing my long/irregular cycles but it was worth a try. Not sure whether to go private for further investigations or just hold out for a few weeks.
