Ok I ahve a truely vile habit of picking at my ingrown hairs on my legs which has left me with lots of slightly brown scars all over them (i'm mixed race so scars show up really easily on my skin)

I'm trying really hard at not to pick at them anymore but is there anything I can do to help shift the remaining ones and get rid of the scars?

I have started using the ingrown hair remover from skin doctors which is helping a bit but if anyone had any better tips please share!!

Thanks all.

Hey,

Tea tree oil dabbed over them twice or three times a day until the inflammation goes down and draws the hair up to the surface. Use tweezers to remove hair rather than fingernails. Another tip is to make sure you are exfoliating regularly over where you get the ingrown hairs. I use exfoliation gloves which were £2 from Boots and put any shower gel on and scrub over each time I'm in the shower. Works wonders!
Getting rid of scars is a bit more difficult as unfortunately they are more than likely permanent, there are some treatments out there which help reduce scarring but are a little pricey. Good luck! x

The only thing I can suggest for the scars is bio oil.

I have an ingrown hair just under my belly button (pregnancy has graced me with a hairy belly!) And will be trying some of the tips on this thread to get rid. So thanks :) x

I have heard that scrubbing too often can make skin toughen up. Have you tried those creams that are meant to stop hairs growing back as fast? becasue I think they make the hair finer.

or else I would get a pin and pick at it until I got the hair out, wait til bleeding stops and put neosporin on it and then a band-aid. I can't leave spots like that alone!!!

Oh no!! Don't do that hun. Drawing blood is never good and more likely to scar. Xx

I exfoliate regularly either with mitts or putting your scrub on dry skin first and then hopping in the shower. Body brushing is also good.

Use a moisturiser with AHAs which act like pacman on the skin and nibble dead skin cells which could cover the hair follicle.

If you do get an ingrown hair, tease the hair with tweezers (make sure they're squeaky clean) then apply tea tree or witch hazel. I also use mineral make up to cover unsightly ones as they have zinc in them which heals the skin as well as covering it up.

Good luck hun! Xx

I agree with the exfoliation - twice a week :)

ex foliation twice a week but i will say you need to get them out with clean tweezers ease it out but try not to make it bleed as that will scar if it doesnt come out the first time with tweezers try the next day

I GOT MY INGROWN HAIR OUT!!!!

Omg its such a glorious feeling!! I had it for over a month and exfoliating, tweezing, creams etc didn't work.

But 2 days ago, I was in the bath for an insane length of time (was too lazy to get out, just kept topping it up with hot water) and after about 45mins I looked at the ingrown hair on my belly and the pore looked a little open, so I got my tweezers and it took a wee while of poking and prodding but I eventually got the little bugger.

I honestly could have danced!!

I had been putting magnesium sulphate paste on it for a few days but it didn't do much tbh x
