Hi just looking for any advice anyone could give me about the whole proces of the infertility clinic. I was referred in aug and am still waiting for my first appointment to come through. So was just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect...I think its likely to be due to scarring of my uterus or blockage off my fallopian tubes that is causing the infertility, from previous blood results and what ive researched on the internet. Xxx

Hi :)
We waited two months for our first appointment after we were referred. Before referral I had to have bloods and an ultrasound. At the first appointment we met the fertility nurse who ran through a load of things with us and did medical history etc. Then she sent me for more bloods, another ultrasound, hsg and my husband had to do two SAs. After all that we then met with the consultant. I'm surprised you haven't been sent an appointment date yet, I was send a date about two weeks after being referred.

Hi thanks for your reply snowbee, yeh i cant believe how long its all taking its its driving me crazy im just so desperate to get the ball rolling now and i feel so it the dark about what to actually expect when we eventually do get an appointment!
Ive had one letter off them asking for bloods to be done at the drs. Had last results today so im hoping if they get them passed straight on to the clinic we will get an appointment within the next couple of weeks! Im sure ill feel better when ive actually got an appointment through just to know we're a step closer to getting some answers xx

I had a brief appointment with the consultant and then was sent for day21 bloods, a hsg and another ultrasound. The process can be lengthy but it's worth it.

Hi Snowbee, may I ask how long after you saw your consultant did it take for you to start ivf treatment and how long that takes please? Many Thanks

I was refered a year ago by my gp. It took 6 months for my app to come in the post.
I guess it depends on the demand at your local hosp?

First app I just spoke to consaultant who said what tests would be needed.
Then was the hsg which was about a month after the first app.
And then was ultrasound which was then another month later.

Today I went back to consultant, they can't find anything wrong so I'm being refered for ivf.
I think she told me there was a 6month wait to see someone. :/

Me and OH now have to have some blood tests and he's got to do another SA because they want something more up to date.

Hopefully you'll get your appointment soon.
It does feel better that somethings are being done.

Hiya,
We haven't started IVF as we are still exploring other options. There is an IVF thread over in the Long Term TTC section and they will be able to help you out with the different protocols and timescales etc.

Hi

I think we had our appointment in the August (2014). I had already had most tests through my GP but he referred me for some others, including a HyCoSy to check mu tubes. Once all those were done, we had another appointment and information session. We chose to have IUI before IVF and had that in January and February last year. We had three rounds but unfortunately it didn't work.

We had a bit of a break as I wanted to get my body sorted and I had a further appointment in June where I was diagnosed with PCOS. We had a holiday in September and had IVF in November. (I didn't want it before my holiday and had to wait a month as I had the endometrial scratch beforehand.)

All the delays have been caused by us really but I know most areas do have waiting lists. Still, I hope my experience has helped you a little. X

I was referred for an ultrasound first to confirm PCOS (husband had also done to SA's, I'd had all bloods and everything else done already), then onto the fertility clinic - which took about 2 months for an appointment to come through. Consultant gave me medication (clomid) on the first visit and told us to try for 6 months. We then went back after no luck and he sent me for a laparoscopy to check everything looked normal (should have done that first before meds, in my opinion).

They don't. They mentioned a laparoscopy at the start but never did one. They've checked my tubes but that's all really. It's something I'm going to ask about on the 20th because it would at least rule out endometriosis. X

I think it depends where you are located. We're near Cardiff, I initially went to see my GP and got referred.

Almost straight away we got sent a letter with all the blood tests we both needed (mainly me) and a SA for him. These and contact to the clinic had to be done in 3 months or we'd get knocked off the list.

I think I've been waiting since September now but when I spoke to the clinic she said it was a very long waiting list. I was hoping we'd get pregnant before I even got there but looking unlikely now.

Best of luck x
