Induction experiences

After seeing my consultant yesterday it has been suggested that I am induced at 38 weeks, which is only 3 weeks away.

I have always hated the thought of induction so I'm panicking slightly!

I think what worries me most is it taking forever, being stuck in hospital for days and then it not progressing and having to have a c section anyway.

I'm just looking for some reassurance and induction stories from other ladies so that I have some idea of what to expect.

It's up to you if you read it, but this was my induction/ birth story from last time: http://www.pregnancyforum.co.uk/bir...13-induction-labour-c-section-story-long.html it's a very honest account of what happened to me, and it will explain why I've refused to have an induction this time.

If you're looking for reassurance that everything will go ok and be fine I wouldn't read it. Just remember that I'm having number two, so I did forget about it in the end xxx

Mine is a completely different version of events from Durhamchance.

I was induced with my second at 41+6 after 3/4 failed sweeps.

I was told to call the ward on Monday but there were no beds ALL day so I told them I would go in through the night if a bed came up, I got a call just before midnight and we went in.
I was monitored for a while then had the pessary put in, I expected this to be like a tampon shape but it was just a flat piece of cardboard (that's the only way I can describe it), it hurt when the mw put it in but once it was in, I was put on the trace and the mw left.
About 15minutes after it was inserted I started to feel really faint, hot sweats, blurry eyes, it passed after a drink of water then it happened again and this time I fainted. I had no clue, I just woke up to OH shaking me and 2 MWs and a doc around me asking me what happened!! Poor OH, doesn't deal well with hospitals and squeamish things! ha
My BP was really low but baby was totally fine (completely oblivious).
Anyway, the pessary was taken out and I started to feel loads better, it was decided nothing would happen for the rest of night until the change over in the morning.
So next day (TUES) it was decided my waters would be broke, they got broken around 1040 and we were left try and get things going. Went for a walk, bounced on the ball, walked around the room. I remember having a big contraction around 2.08pm (I literally looked at the time to see if I should start to time them as it was a little nippy), put on the tens, woke up OH who has snoozing and after that they came thick and fast, so fast that the mw went off to run the pool for me when she came back she said I had no time and baby was coming.
Baby arrived at 1602. So just short of 2 hours on a tens machine and G&A.

Not all inductions are straight forward but overall I found mine too be really positive. I was home that night by 9pm :)

Good Luck xx

Hi

I was induced at 38 weeks when my cervix was 2 cm long & very much closed. They inserted a pessary and after 24 hours showed no progress. They took it out and said they'd try the gel thing 12 hours later. However after a few hours my waters broke, and 34 hours after the start I was 4 cm dilated. Baby born 12 hours after that, but we needed a ventouse as my epidural meant I couldn't push baby out after 2 & half hours.

I was surprised how quickly things went after the pessary was removed, when that nurse heard I was already in labour she was amazed.

I can't give you a positive account of an induction, I just had my third induction using the new method of the tampon induction pessary. My first two were normal pessary's 13 and 15 years ago which were different to the latest one I had. I spent 12 hours in intense pain, on the ante natal ward and was told I was not in labour. I was given no pain relief and left alone with my husband to cope with these 'non' contractions. I was told the pessary must stay in for up to 30 hours. I was in agony, they wouldn't examine me and sent my husband home as they said nothing would happen until the next day. Much of what I went through was down to the nursing staff (I was diabetic and told to monitor sugar levels myself!). My husband missed the birth.

The problem I had with the induction was that it was very accelerated. I dilated from 4 cm to giving birth in under 2 minutes. They have written in my notes I was in labour for 48 minutes. My son was born with no assistance under the covers in bed in a corridor. I was told if the labour was too intense then they could reverse the effect and remove the pessary, they never did that.

I have complained and so has my community midwife, I just thank god my son and I were ok, but with inductions everything can be faster so it's worth keeping an eye on things and making yourself heard if needed xx

I have four daughters and have been induced with three of them - one was two weeks late, one induced at 37 weeks as waters were leaking and one at 38 weeks due to my excessive fluid level.
I will make this short and sweet! The labour and birth of my only non induced baby was 100 times nicer/easier/quicker/less painful than all the others! That said, you want a healthy baby and that's all that matters. They know what they are doing and let's face it, you won't remember much once you are holding your baby. Induction usually involves a lot of sitting about with not much going on so my advice to you would be, take plenty of stuff to keep you busy and keep an open mind x x

I promise it won't be as bad as you think! I had a pessary (like a tampon string) put in at 9am,and didn't feel a thing till 11pm, then was in full blown labour and had my son at 8am. I've got nothing to compare it to but I was surprised at how different (in a good way) it was than I had imagined. Breathe LONG AND DEEP on gas and air to get the best out of it. People usually take a few panicky puffs and say it isn't working, but it really helps to go long and deep. I didn't need any other pain relief, and just so you know, I, a wuss with pain and even need magic cream prescribed for needles.

Good luck. Don't panic, breathe deep. Everything you're feeling now is natural. You'll smash it xxx
