good luck Erin, hope the blood presure comes down for you X

Hope everything is settling down hun xx

glad to hear youre home. Know what you mean, getting mentally prepared for something then it doesnt happen! :wall: still youre right, if you can start it all off naturally its probably better, depends how patient you are!!! :)

glad you're back home! I can sympathise on the bp front, mine's been high all the way through!! To top it all off I was told today that you're stronly recommended to have an epidural if your bp is high during labour :wall2: Can't tell you how much I don't want an epidural!

I dont see why an epidural would help blood pressure? Did they tell you why?

Oh no Inky! Who told you that? I really dont want an epidural. Have specifically put it in my birth plan!

just occured to me, maybe its one of those 'just incase' policies. If you have had high blood pressure they might decide you are 'high risk' (although they never say of what) and then if youre high risk, you might need an emergency c-section (although I dont think youd have one cos of BP?) so if you have an epidural they dont have to put one in later on the small chance that youll end up needing a section...

this is the way they seem to do things. Just refuse the epidural if you dont want one. You have to sign a consent form to have one so, no signature, no epidural. They'l just have to get on with your birth plan properly.

:shakehead: I know what I'm like though, if they recommend something I will go along with it. These people are the professionals....

....but I wont do it without a fight! I have VERY strong views regarding epidural so they will have to give me some bloody good reason for me needing it!

:yay: stick up for yourself hun. They are professionals but theyre also under a huge amount of pressure to do the right thing. Its very difficult for them to just do nothing and wait. They could end up in trouble for 'neglecting' you. If you tell them that you are perfectly happy to let things progress naturally as long as you and baby arent at any risk then they should go along with it. Mind you, when I was admitted the other week, and i felt sick, they were all so surprised that I didnt want an injection to stop the naussea. Honestly, its was 2am, I just wanted to go to sleep and see how I feel. I dont WANT to pump my body with drugs! If I was so sick that I couldnt keep water down and was at risk of dehydration then it would be different. They just dont have a 'do nothing and wait' culture.

she didn't say why exactly, but I just found this:

The primary problem associated with receiving epidural anesthesia is low blood pressure, otherwise known as hypotension, because of the blocking of sympathetic fibers in the epidural space. The decreased peripheral resistance that results in the circulatory system causes dilation of peripheral blood vessels. Fluid collects in the peripheral vasculature (vessels), simulating a condition that the body interprets as low fluid volume.

I really don't want an epidural either and also will find it hard to say no - I'm not very good at standing up for myself against doctors and the like, so OH has been coached to do for me lol!
