Hello ladies, I wondered if anyone could briefly outline what might happen in the next few months - i.e. I went to docs last week who said I didn't need Mat B1 for work - work are now asking for it. I don't see the M/W till Dec and haven't seen her since 16 weeks. Antenatal classes - do I just book my own and when should I be going and for how long?

Sorry to be clueless. Keeping a full time job is bad enough at the moment!!!

Nice to be meeting you all - its getting quite exciting now!

Thanks

Hi ya hun welcome to tri 3

You should have a midwife apt soon to take bloods etc have you not got any apts booked?

My midwife gave me my matb1 at about your stage, she also gave me details of my antenatal classes which i had to book myself well in advance as they book up very quickly. Antenatal classes vary from place to place so i cant tell you how long yours will last mine went on for 5 weeks once a week. i started them at 28 weeks i think it was.

Hope this helps

Emma

Thanks! M/W app is 2nd Dec. Perhaps I should start looking into classes now -fingers croseed they are not booked up.

Thanks, its good to hear other peoples experience/advice. :)

You should have had a MatB1 form by now - you will definitely need it for work if you are going to claim maternity pay. I got mine after my 20 week scan from my M/W.

Also, my M/W gave me a form to fill in for antenatal classes but I had to fill it in straight away coz they book up so early. I started them at 31 weeks for 4 weeks and I have 2 additional classes (1 is a waterbirth class tomorrow). If your NHS classes are full, you could try NCT classes which I think you have to pay for but they may also be full by now - good luck!

And you haven't seen your M/W in 11 weeks?! It should be at last once a month - going to fortnightly when you get to about 30 weeks - thats shocking!

Sorry dont know anything about the maternity form as not working (having just returned from living overseas), In the early stages I saw my midwife at 16 weeks and then not again until 25 weeks - so there was 9 weeks between them, but think that you should be seeing her again before 2nd Dec!

Ever since 25 weeks its been every 3 weeks I see her - had bloods taken again at 28 weeks, and from 34 weeks I am due to see her every 2 weeks.

I am told it can vary slightly depending on the area.

I only got details of my local NHS antenatal classes last week, and they are being run for an hour every couple of weeks at our local surgery by the midwives, for a hospital visit I had to call and book it myself, and going next week (MW gave me the number).
