Typing this while sitting here listening to my baby cry :( only 3 minutes to go. We decided to give controlled crying a go as much as I hate doing it, it works and he is normally asleep with only one visit. But tonight his daddy is working late and I think he knows cos he won't settle. It's breaking my heart I feel so evil :( we are only on night 5 please tell me it gets easier xxx

Fast asleep but I now have a headache. I feel so mean when he just wants me to stay with him xxx

It does get easier! My little boy skips to bed now, so that week of what felt like hell at the time was worth it!

It does get easier!

My friend was telling me that about 3/4 nights into it, they give it one last strong push to get you to give in and that's when most do, but if you stick it out it works.

No experience but there's a reason so many people do Hun and you're not evil!
A better rested baby and mummy equals more fun
X x

Thanks girls. I feel so mean but he got to used to me being in the room and hand holding or bum patting.

One question tho. Last night he fell asleep with his bottle and I just put him down. Should I wake him a little before putting him in the cot xxx

I never did hun.
When noah was a little older id hand him his milk awake in his bed say goodnight and walk out. He'd nod off soon as he'd finish his bottle and id just go back in after to get it when he was asleep.
Xx

Thanks hun. Yeah I will do the same once he will do it lazy moo only half holds it. He won't tip it haha. He is almost walking and talking but won't do his own bottle lol xxx

Noah was the same! He wouldnt hold it for ages haha! Xx

I never wake Caleb if he does that at the moment (he's 5 months)....if he's asleep I'm keeping him that way at any cost!

I've been doing controlled crying to but for daytime naps as Caleb was terrible at sleeping and I'd spend ages rocking him in his bouncer/my arms and it was getting ridiculous. I've done it for 2 weeks now, at first it was a 30-45 minute screaming match and absolutely horrendous. Now he may still cry a little but it is more like a shout and after going in once he'll go off to sleep quite happily. I almost gave up with it a few times and he still occasionally will have a huge meltdown but persevere with it - I know you feel horrendous but you're actually just trying to help him so don't feel bad xx

I did CC with my son at 9 months and it really did work.

My little girl is only (almost) 8 weeks and would like to get her to self settle as she's a ruddy stubborn one, but unfortunately too early for us. Can't wait till she hits 5 months or so so I can do it... not waiting until 9 months this time!

It works. My son didn't sleep at all and at 14 months I did controlled crying. I was sure it wouldn't work as he was so severe but after a week he slept through the night and has slept great since...he's now almost 6 x

I never had a problem with my daughter going to bed until a couple of months ago (she is a year and half) when she started waking in night crying and refusing to go back in her own bed so I had to use controlled crying but after a week of this she self settles brilliantly now unless she is waking up due to thirst or something in which case she has a drink and goes back to sleep within 10 mins :) although it is hard hearing them upset it is so worth doing as self settling is really important x

Like h16 we had no issues til a few weeks back (18 months) and she was comimg in with us and not going to bed. Eventually we decided cc and after a couple of tough nights it got better and she's now back to normal. I felt awful but no sleep wasn't doing any of us any good - it defo gets easier x

I feel so mean. He isn't bad to put to bed and dosnt take long. Maybe 10-15 minutes but he was getting dependent on me bum patting or hand holding and I don't want that. I'm now finding it takes longer to get him to sleep then in listening to little sobs for half hour after. Main trouble I think is the dummy. Soon and that hits the floor everything is 10 times worse lol and standing up and jumping lol xxx

I have been known to creep in on my tummy to retrieve a dummy and post it back through the bars of the cot, lol.

Lol that's funny. Soon as it hits the floor he is on his feet lol he would see me. I put a couple extra in once he is asleep tho but while he is going down he won't get one he wants the one on the floor lol xxx

It will be ok, we realised when Ethan was 4 months old he was really grumpy at 6.30pm so we placed him in his crib in our room on his own. Nothing would make him better he was just tired so we did controlled crying. Anyway at first it was hard but worth it. After a couple of weeks he slept from 6.30 until 7am the next morning. He would have naps throughout the day. Now at 2 he accepts bed time at 6.30/7pm and he wakes up around 7pm and plays for about an hour with toys in is cot. It has meant I can hold a full time job without utter exhaustion but it has also meant that my husband and i get time in the evening together. Routine is the key and though it means we don't go out in the evening much as Ethan he awful past 5.30pm its worth it to have well rested toddler and less sleep deprived parents. I know at first it seems mean and some people say they don't agree with it I knew at 6.30pm my little baby didn't know what he wanted he was just too tired.

Hope you are ok xx

Last night was the best so far. Only had to go in once. He was asleep in less than 5 minutes. Still feel mean as he never cried when I put him to bed and now he does lol xxx
