I'm really pleased and proud that LO is now in own room and sleeping more or less 7 to 7, the only thing is I shush him to sleep! I know it's naughty, but I enjoy it, Aiden enjoys it and I have to admit it's easier than the alternative! But last might he just wouldn't go off so I did put him in cot awake! Was up and down 14 times shushing him and putting dumning in and trying to creep out of room, inbeteeen we let him cry...a bit (cos I hate it) and tonight I ended up sitting by coy holding his hand shushing him! So I guess I'm asking how do u get little ones to go down for the night and get themselves to sleep? Is controlled crying the dreaded only way?! Xx

Isla now falls asleep on her own, but I do put her mobile on which helps. If I'm honest most of the time I nurse her to sleep. It's so much easier than letting her cry. She has surprised me today, she fell asleep on her own during the day. She's not done that in ages.

Sorry I realise I've not been much help! X

I did controlled crying once when Lizzie was six weeks old. We set a timer for 5 minutes and settled her each time it went off then reset it to go again. It took a total of 2 hours but she eventually fell asleep.
I can honestly say it was the best thing I could've done, although it seemed awful at the time. I have never had to do it since, she goes down awake and is able to go to sleep on her own. She occasionally loses her dummy just before she falls asleep so I have to go and replace it but that's it!

I also think it's really important to have a routine that is exactly the same every night so baby knows it's bedtime :)

I use a whinnie the pooh dream show and he goes off on his own.
I did have to do controlled crying to start off with though when he was 4 weeks old. He used to cry everytime I put him in his cot awake but I wanted him to be used to going to sleep awake.
I did the same as becky. Used to go in after 5 mins, resettle without talking then leave the room and if he started crying again I waited another 5mins before going back.
It took 2 horrible weeks but it worked and he now goes to sleep no probs.
I did controlled crying with Lacey and it only took 3 days!!

Did you just have to leave her that once to cry 2 hours? Then been ok since?? X

Thanks for advice ladies' it's so hard! Was stupid last night and at 3am got him in bed with us, just wanted some sleep! Will have to be strong!

He had a Winnie light show settles with it for 10mins then cries!! That used to work when he was in our room though! X

Yep, I was really lucky, that did the trick for us! It's definitely worth trying but you have to be really strict - imagine if I'd only put up with the crying for 1 1/2 hours and then decided to pick her up and rock her to sleep? Wouldn't have been worth doing at all!
