My 18 month old girl goes down for naps and sleep like a dream ( or so we thought) but wakes in the night crying for a couple of minutes.

So we installed a camera to see what might be causing the crying or what she's doing when she cries, eg sitting up, lying down etc

So the past few days I've put her in her cot, awake as always and left. Normally I have a voice monitor but now we use the camera. I've always thought, as she makes no sound that she lies down and goes to sleep.

But no... She sits up quietly playing with her teddies for up to half an hour!!! And the same in the morning. Just lies there playing with her teddies and now I feel terrible :(
If she's so awake why doesn't she call out to me?!? She will eventually, say 30 minutes later but why not when she wakes up? We've never controlled cried her, I always go in when she cries bar the two minutes in the night as she goes back to sleep.

I feel really terrible that for months and months she nay have been sat in the dark for 30 minutes before going to sleep and after waking up :(
Do I get her up when I see she's awake? Do I wait for her to shout me?

Dam cameras :( x

If she is happy and content I really don't see the problem?

I think it's just realising that she's playing all alone when I had previously assumed that she was asleep.

I suppose I'm asking
Is her bedtime too early? Is this normal? Do I put her to bed too awake?
I've always put her to bed awake so she can self settle but maybe this is too much?

Sounds like she'd got it spot on. She's just unwinding before sleeping and then slowly coming round in the mornings. She's happy and healthy and doesn't need anything and is secure and confident in her own company. Sounds like a balanced little lady, leave her to enjoy her me time :)

Honestly, she sounds absolutely fine :-) Try not to feel terrible.

Thank you guys.

I really hope that's the case, I sat and cried last night as I was convinced that she wasn't calling out because she didn't trust me to come, but my partner said I was being ridiculous.
As long as she's happy, that's fine.

Maybe because I hate my own company I can't see her enjoying it. Then again with a 5 month around and a busy house she might enjoy the peace lol x x

Nothing wrong with what you're doing at all. You're little one is happy and content to play on their own, so leave them to it! It's not that she doesn't trust you to come, it's that she feels happy, safe and secure enough to play on her own.

I've been doing this with my eldest for ages. He'll play with the toys in his cot for about half an hour before starting to shout for OH and I.

Ohhhh that's fab to hear!!!

I'll try to panic less tonight then. Good job I didn't go and grab her.
My oh stopped me and took the camera lol x

My son did it too, completely normal and reassuring that to have a happy child :)

This is perfectly normal behaviour hun, my daughter has been known to play happily on her own for an hour before sleep/upon waking up. We all like time to ourselves sometimes to relax and kids are no different :) x

She is self settling which is a good thing and she wouldn't be able to do it if she wasn't happy and secure.

I got up this morning to find my toddler downstairs, sat at the table - god knows how long he'd been there lol (usually he comes in to me but for some reason didn't today!!)

Jackson does this, he never used to - but now that he can talk and his imagination is coming out more and more, he sits playing.

I have found times I hear a toy going off, and dismiss it thinking it just fell and hit another toy. One day I heard the peppa pig toy going over and over and over for ages. I thought best go in and turn it off or itll wake Jackson, and there he was. Sitting on the floor playing with his toy.

I do hear him some nights, talking to himself, playing with his teddies. He never comes out his room when hes put down at night, but in the morning he comes in to me. He came in at the weekend, woke me asked for some milk, I sat up and said 2 minutes. Off he goes and drags in the giant jugs of milk and hands me it with a bottle lmao. Im like okay. But most mornings during the week, hes up early and just lies in bed until I go in and get him despite him having his own bed, or if I leave him too long ie like 30 minutes, he gets up lol.

I dont think they feel like under stimulated, i think theyr just having too much fun to go to bed. It is a shame, I feel rotten putting Jackson down so early, but we need to otherwise hes up really early for nursery the next day and crabbit.

Noah does this. Its absolutely fine like others have said, similar to us sitting in bed reading a book or on our phones before we nod off.
when he was in a cot i would here him wake but he would be sat playing with his scout dog or babbling to himself. Now hes in his bed within 10mins of waking hes up and at the bottom of my bed shouting 'HIYA MUMMY' lol!!

Honestly if she isnt crying and upset then there really isnt anything wrong hun :) x

I stash Jacksons Scout puppy, in the night garden teddies and Mickey sleepy teddy because they all make noise and he would literally sit all day.

I end up singing along with scout. It says Jackson ever so funny.

Jaaaaaack, sooooooon. lol xxx

Sounds his fave! He sticks the lullabies on himself to go to sleep bless lol xx

Did you link it up to your phone? Ive put like Jacksons favourite food in, but for colour I just guessed. Ill probably need to update that since Ive set it to purple. Poor boy.
