But can Tyler be feeding enough?

The last couple of days Tyler's been going up to 3 hours in the day (and went 4 1/2 last night..... New record) without eating then when he does he's spent about 7-10 mins eating. He'll fuss and push it away so I'll burp and try again and he fusses pushing it away.

That can't be enough can it!?

I did try and pump in the morning straight after his feed and nothing really came out of the side he fed from!

I'm really going with it and trusting me and him but just wanted to check others had had this or if it sounds worrying!

Think they get more proficient at feeding? Get more in shorter space of time? I know they are known to drop a feed at some point. And surely they'll let us know if hungry?

I can only tell you from my experience so may not be the same of course. I exclusively breastfed until 7 weeks (didn't stop by choice). At 5 weeks Chloe was weighed and found that she'd only put on 3 ounces since birth. She was only feeding for 10mins then pulling away so was only getting foremilk. Obviously she was a lot younger than Tyler is now so maybe he's just getting his fill much quicker?

Maybe take him to be weighed to put your mind at ease hun xx

My lo is quite a bit younger than yours bt i bf and she will sleep 6/7 hours at night feed for 20mins then start fussing and not want anymore she is only 3 weeks old but so far has put on 1oz a day everyday for the past 2weeks she will feed every 3/4 hours during the dday again for 20mins half an hour so it is possible for them to get what they need even when they dont seem to be eating loads. Hv was also saying that the olde they get the more goodness they take from tge milk. Xx

Defo keep an eye on his weight hun.. Keep offering as much as possible to build up ur supply.. Lilyanna got like this when I was running out of milk.. Weigh him every week for an accurate weight gain/loss

Joshua has been like this for a few weeks now and seems to be putting on weight fine. Guess they just get better at getting milk out? Also, keep an eye on nappies. Make sure he is still pooping and having plenty of wet ones.x

Hun, I can tell you for a fact, if you pump from the breast he's just fed from, in 90% of times, because he's already triggered letdown, it won't happen again if you try and express immediately. The pump is so much more primitive than the baby's suction technique. You have to give it 20-30 mins and you'll have letdown with pump as well.

keep an eye on his nappies, and get him weighed. but im sure its just that there becomes a point they just get better at feeding. did hv not say that ty was feeding a lot for his age - maybe its just that he suddenly got the knack. xxx

Nappies are all fine! Lots of them (they've been leaking over our bed recently lol) less pooey ones I guess but he's passing it all ok. He never did feed for long occasionally 20 min but mainly 5-10 (increased 7-15 mainly about 10 since spreading feeds as HV advised) not hugely worried about weight. Getting weighed on Tuesday so guess I can ask then?

Hey hon, I think it sounds fine. If Tyler seems happy then I think he's getting enough. A very nice gp I saw said babys get better at getting the milk out and stop feeding for as long. At this point he said they shouldn't be feeding from one boob more than 15 minutes at a time because past that they're most likely playing around so transfer them. But he also said just to follow what seems to be working for you and LO, nature doesn't know what the NHS has told us!

Also just wanted to say you're doing amazingly - you're my PF inspiration for bf as you're so calm and supportive about it all and doing so great! Xxxxx

I just came on to add he just had a 20 min feed and saw this! I'm actually all teary how sweet thank you so much! I just try and give the support that I didn't have! But you have seriously thrown me with that I am so touched!!!

You're now getting to the 3 month milestone, where it gets ALOT easier. As long as LO is gaining weight then he's fine. By the time you get to 6 months he'll cut right back, Oz was doing 3 feeds a day from 6-12 months... was heaven lol

It does get quicker and further apart as they get older. They are efficient little things. X

I couldn't agree more. I think there's a lot of ladies on here who've persevered with BF because of you. Xx

Where are you bf him? I notced F has become far nosier in last few weeks and if in busy, noisy environment, even if just me talking to someone she gets distracted and has a short feed 7 mins ish but if I gp upstairs and feed her on bed (like at night) she'll feed longer. It was worst when she barely fed all day but was very content and then doubled the length of her night feeds as it was dark and quiet! :o)

He sounds fine to me. Kynon feeds no longer than 10 mins during the day, longer at night because he comforts and i guess there is less milk later on. They get really good at emptying the breast the older they get, i bet a bottle fed baby only takes a few mins to drain a bottle at Tylers age too. If he's pooing and weeing and you are noticing him growing out of clothes he will be fine. Its hard not knowing how much they are having but I love looking at Kynon and seeing how big he is now and thinking "I did that" lol!

Generally i'm home alone he can defo be more fussy in public as he's not used to it but he's even better at that now!

Thanks everyone! Think I was just alarmed how long he was going considering not long a go the HV said he was feeding too much! Im kinda looking forward to his weigh in on Tuesday now!
