Anyone else considered hypnobirthing or know someone who has been throgh labour using it?

I think its Redshoes that used Hypnobirthing and there is someone else whos name i cannot recall right now-
i'm sure they will reply when they see your post :-) xx

Im gate crashing again (still in tri 2) but its something i was looking at. Its about £250 for the course though. Ive decided to get a CD to listen to at home but no idea which one.

I think the mind can be such a powerful thing when it comes to pain.

Hiya,

I've kinda been doing it - I didn't do a course but have a book & a couple of cd's and I already feel quite calm.

My SIL had a baby on Wed and she has just been listening to the cd occasionally but she said it really helped her to control her breathing and relax which helped her to cope with the pain a bit better than she may have otherwise.

Redshoes is the lady to ask - she helped me when I had questions earlier on in the pregnancy.

I've been using the cds at home- found the relaxation one great for falling asleep to and now listening to birth prep which is good too. Hoping its all sinking in subconsciously.

Can you give me the name of the CDs you've been using as id like to get some?

Thanks!!

I am using a marie mongan one - it comes with a cd. I got if off amazon.

Yep. I have found it really good. Very empowering & it has convinced me that i can have the birth I want.

Obviously I am still aware that anything can happen but I think it has helped me just relax about the whole birth process & trust that my body will do what it needs to.

Will purchase one of them i think! Im the same.. Im not saying its that way or no way but i dont think it can do any harm by being as relaxed as possible about it. Anyway.. best get back to where i belong.. will see you all in a couple of weeks! Sorry for gatecrashing the thread!!

Hi there,

I used this book and CD as hypnobirthing training and found it really helpful during late pregnancy and labour.

I do know there are classes but I didn't attend those. Redshoes did though so might be worth PMing her.

Ooh this is encouraging - this is the book/cd I have been using - and as I am aiming for a home water birth so have been reading through the birth stories and yours is the one that I pointed out to OH as what we are aiming for (Hope you don't mind). I thought your birth story was beautiful.

Aw thank you lovely - didn't feel beautiful at the time! :rotfl: No seriously, I had a brilliant experience and couldn't recommend a home water birth highly enough.

I would recommend Hypnobirthing to anyone, its full of excellent techniques to help you have a calm and happy birth, including breathing exercises and relaxation, self hypnosis. LucyBee also had Hypnobirthing classes as did my OH and I, and I found them invaluable. I learnt much more than the above, but all about how the uterus works, what's important for optimum contractions and how to do it all whilst remaining calm and focussed.

The Marie Mongan book is the best place to start, it will introduce how Hypnobirthing came about and its message, that basically birth is natural and when you believe in your body and baby, you will have a much more relaxed experience.

Isaac's birth ended up being one quite drug orientated, but before that point I was thoroughly enjoying and felt very relaxed and calm with every contraction. I would offer the humble advice that sometimes birth doesn't play out entirely naturally, and its worth looking through your birth plan so no matter what course it takes, you can feel your experience did benefit from your thinking before it, and any self preperation :)

PM anytime, and very best wishes with whatever you decide

I got the Marie Mongan book out of the library but it didn't have the CD with it - i keep renewing it cos i don't wanna let it go back LOL! It's a wonderful read and i found it all made total sense with regards to self hypnosis and breathing - was kinda imagining "look into the eyes not around the eyes" but then realised that the hypnosis they are talking about was what i do every afternoon when i have a bit of chill out time on the sofa :D Anyone know where i can get just a copy of the CD from at all? Am really keen to use hypnobirthing breathing techniques along with Reiki for pain relief if all goes well - am a reiki practicioner meself and baby already loves mummy's warm hands :D am so excited and not scared at all since reading the book :D

PM'd you Fly :)
I'd also alert the library staff to the fact it's missing as they should really re-order a new one, and make sure they check the CD's in the book when peeps return it  hehe

Thankyou for your PM redshoes and good idea bout the library  xxx

Like Redshoes said, my OH and I did a Hypnobirthing course and it was the absolute highlight of my pregnancy.

Before the course I wanted every single drug going as early as possible. After the course I did my birth plan and stated that I wanted a completely natural birth in water with no drugs at all.

The course completely changed my mind about the whole birthing process. I was calm and not at all scared. It was also lovely for helping you to bond with your baby whilst he/she is still in your tummy!

Ultimately I had to have a section. The consultant wouldn't let me even attempt a natural labour as Tom was so big (10lbs 14oz) but even then I used the hypnobirthing techniques throughout the section. I still use them now if I'm stressed or can't sleep.

The Marie Mongan book is great but it may take you a few listens of the CD to get around her annoying voice but it is a good place to start. If you can afford to do a course though, do it. You will not regret it. It's a wonderful, happy, relaxing experience that could completely change your views on birth.
