Hypnobirthing research

The more I hear about hypnobirthing the more I wish I'd tried some classes...too late for me now but might consider if if I am blessed enough to have another one xx

I dont have the funds to do the classes but I bought the CD and all I can say for now is that it really has relaxed me and made me less anxious about giving birth-which can only be a good thing! x

I did natal hypnotherapy which is the uk version and I would recommend it to everyone! The classes are cheaper plus it's British :d It really helped me stay in control even when things got scary and it was fantastic!

I did the book and CD cos of the cost too, it made a huge difference. Next time I will be forking out to do the course as a one to one, I don't care how much it costs I have no doubt that it'll be the best money I ever spend (on my creditcard! )

I bought the CD and listened to it for the first time last night, I already feel more relaxed about it! Honestly Amandapanda - even if you only listen to it once before your baby arrives I'm sure it'll help you a bit at least! The book does say no matter how late you listen to it, if only a couple of the phrases stay in your head then they'll benefit you.

I'll be listening to it with my hubby as much as possible now so we both learn the right techniques to deal with it all as best we can.

Helen123 told me about Natal Hypnotherapy a while ago and I ordered the book and 4CD set for hospital/Birth Centre birthing.

I can honestly say that the book is a real eye opener and takes away the fear of birth by stressing to you how your body KNOWS what to do - it was built to do it and also has stories from different women and sometimes Dad's advising the benefit during their labours. The CD's have been wonderful during pregnancy allowing me to truely relax, connect with the baby (she goes mental when I lie down and relax to the CD's LOL) and take time out for myself. I have suffered with anxiety and depression for years and was worried about the effect on my baby which is why I was looking for something to help.

The book has also helped prepare my OH for Labour - there is a section dedicated just to birthing partners and also exercises for you to do together- now if we could just get him to stay awake during the CD's we are sure that would be of benefit too!

Maggie Howell - the lady who started Natal Hypnotherapy is actually mentioned/quoted in the article in the link.

I actually can't wait to try it all out in labour and see how it will benefit!

Is the natal hypnotheraphy one you can do with out the workshops? The only one in Yorks/humber is too far away and I can't afford the hypnotherapy courses.
This is my 3rd baby and I think stress has caused both my previous labours to stop so I am willing to give anything a try.

I did the mongan method one without going to the course just using the book and CD that comes with it. Try reading Ina May Gaskins guide to childbirth too. it realy inspired my trust in childbirth, and would explain how stress causes your labour to slow down or even stop. Its a brilliant book, Im going to buy it for all my pregnant friends in the future!

Hi Yorksmummy - Yeah my experience of Natal Hypnotherapy so far is without attending a class - Just reading the book and using the CD's - I can honestly say I feel very calm - not just about labour but pregnancy and life in general.

Although this pregnancy has been fairly easy and without problems I have had a lot of issues in the time I have been pregnant to deal with and I can honestly say I have handled them calmly and with as little stress as possible - normaly it would have felt like the world was going to end lol

Good luck with whichever one you try xx

Thanks Miss, I have just been looking at the natal hypnotherapy CDs, think I'll give them a go, some of the testimonies kind of made sense if you know what I mean. I am only 15 weeks but I am already getting wound up and worried about having to have a consultant lead birth, ending up on the drip and having an assisted delivery yet again. I end up feeling a failure. Just want to shut myself in a box, but my kids keep me focussed. Thanks again. x

You are welcome hun!

I would reccomend the book too! There are actually stories in the books from woman just like yourself that had horrific first births which made them very anxious and worried etc but by understanding how your body is equipt to deal with it and taking the stress out of it and relaxing they had a normal labour some of them even said enjoyable - although after having a child myself I don't see how thats possible hahah

It also goes into how our bodies will shut down and labour will stop if we feel in danger so that we would be able to move ourselves to safety - basically protecting our child.

It is a really good read and makes total sense - I had never thought about labour in that way before.

You are not a faliure hun xx

Make sure you talk to your midwife or consultant about how you feel after your last birth, they should know how youre going to feel when youre in labour so they can support you better

Tiny is right - the more the people around you know about your past births and worries the more they can help.

You could even have OH tell the midwives so that you don't have to go thru it all and bring up those feelings while in labor X.

Thanks ladies, I wouldn't describe my labours as horrendous, not like some people on here have had, just not the way I wanted them to be and I felt very much out of control with them in the end.
Have spoken to my hubby about it and told him about the CD and he was very supportive (expected him to be sceptical), and he said my last delivery was taken out of my control as the baby's heart beat was dipping with each contraction (something I hadn't been aware of). Seeing my consultant in a fortnight so will tell him why I am scared of a consultant led birth. And I am really looking forward to this CD arriving. Making time for myself with 2 toddlers is quite alien really so I think I will enjoy that! x

haha I expected my OH to be really sceptical of the CD's too but he understood my need to try and relax. He now can't believe the difference it has made to me and has even been telling on of the woman at his work all about the CD's and book!

When things go wrong in labour things can happen so quick and they can really take the control away from you which I can imagine would cause some real panic for you hun. The delivery is normaly dead quick so you book might be here today! Fx

Wow 2 toddlers? You totaly deserve some time to chill out with a CD! Be warned tho...you may fall asleep while listening to it haha xx

I couldn't have gone through birth without it.

The single best £275 I have ever spent. It's a life lesson. You'll use it afterwards too and then for any future babies.

For those of you put off by the Marie Mongan voice (I know I was!) I am re-recording and voicing Rainbow Relaxation for a friend who is doing hypnobirthing at some point next week. I would be happy to pass on once I've mixed it down to anyone that wants it.
