Just wondered as the maternity books and what not say a "normal" pregnancy should be kept an eye on kinda every 4/6 weeks till 32 weeks then every 2 weeks till 40 then weekly till birth.

I have a very far from "normal" pregnancy due to bleeding, a large hernia, being over weight and also past difficulties with my other pregnancy, including a colostomy after my episiotomy (sp?) went wrong then bowel reconstruction surgery then reversal operation.

See my dilemma is that i saw my specialist on 4th April, who wont see me again now till 20th June when i will be nearly 29 weeks and then again on 8th Aug to book my section the following week.

Does this sound right to you ladies?

Sorry for the long winded post i just really don't know whether i should be pushing for more intervention or shutting up and getting on with it :?

Oh and all my natal care is done at the hospital nothing at GP.

im recieving mw led care and not having to see any consultants/specialists. are you not seeing your mw for appointments inbetween?

I saw my mw at 9, 17 and 24 weeks so far plus a 12 and 21 wek scan. my next appointment is may 1st taking me to 28 weeks.

sorry if this isnt much help :hug: :hug:

The dates my midwife office gave me to be seen are 8 weeks, Scan at 12 weeks, 16 weeks, Scan at 20 weeks, and then midwife appointments at 24, 27, 31, 34, 36, 38, 41 weeks.

But my doctors surgery and midwife office don't get on very well so I've only met my actual midwife once so far.

It doesn't seem right that you should have to wait so long especially if you are having problems :|

Thanks girls your kinda just making me realise what i already know i think (thank you !!!) It's not right is it?
I mean i don't see ANYONE now till my 20 week scan which is on 1st May and i'll be nearly 22 weeks, but even then its JUST a scan no midwife appointment or anything else, it cant be right can it, i'm not just feeling deserted for no reason lol
Rar, question is now how do i go about getting something done about it :?

do you have a midwife at your gp? or even ask your gp?? :think:

really hope you find out- dont let anybody fob you off! :hug:

Oh and those are the only appointments i have nothing with midwife or gp, sorry should have made it clearer in my original post :oops:

I am under consultant led care and see my m/w in between my hosp appointments.

Ring your GP surgery up and make an appointment to see her there.

Let's see:

* 6 Weeks - booking in appointment (can't remember date!)
* 12 Week - 1st Scan, check up, consultation etc (can't remember date!)
* 16 Week - Midwife Check up (20 February)
* 16 Week - Private Scan (not part of NHS Care - 21 February)
* 20 Week - Midwife Check up (20 March)
* 21 Week - Scan at antenatal unit/hospital (30 March)
* 24 Week - GP Check up (18 April)
* 28 Week - Midwife Check up (15 May)
* 32 Week - Midwife Check up (12 June)
* 34/36/38/40 Weeks - Midwife Check up

If I go overdue I'd then be seen 40/41/42 weeks and at 42 weeks offered induction, they don't seem to like pregnancy going into week 43.

ETA: I'm under midwife led care (the 24 week GP check-up seems to be purely so the maternity forms can be processed....goodness knows why the midwife can't do that herself but there you go, here in this area for the maternity certificate at 24 weeks you need to see the GP).

Blimey seems you get dam good treatment Nicola!
I think you ladies are 100% right and i'm going to ring the doctors Monday morning, i wont hold my breath though, i rang them last week got told the first bookable appointment was JUNE :shock:
Will see if there is any way i can wangle it and get in because i'm sure i'm missing something and i've been getting mega painful hips/fanoola feels like i've been sat on a traffic cone :oops:

Do you think so? I wasn't too impressed with it when I first found out what was what etc but having read what some of you ladies recieve (and don't recieve) I've decide it's not too bad afterall!!

for the last few weeks i have been seen by the hospital alot due to major probs,

Normally though i got seen at 16 weeks then was told to see midwife at 28 weeks.. so a massive gap, but im glad i see mine most of the time at least 1 a week at the moment

Fee Fee, I've had appointments with the consultant (as I had problems with first pregnancy and am "high risk" too) and had midwife checks with my GP's surgery.

I wasn't sent any appointments automatically apart from the initial consultant appointment and my scans (which I had to chase up in any event).

I'll be seeing the consultant again when 29 weeks (just over 2 weeks time) and then we'll discuss delivery options. At the last consultantion he asked me to book extra scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks which I have done.

Aside from the booking in appt at the hospital, the first appt with the consultant and the scans I haven't had ante natal care at the hospital. It's all down to the MW at the Surgery (or a GP if the MW isn't there).

It seems to me the NHS system is not always adequate and you do have to push for what you want. Ring your GP's practice and see if you can get into see the MW. If not tell them your story, explain how you are "high risk" and insist on seeing a doctor for ante natal checks instead.

Good luck!

:hug:

Thank you so much for your advice Sabina, i think thats exactly what i'm going to do Monday, i'll go down to the surgery and see what i can get with regards to appointments although i am meant to be having all my care at the hospital not the gp's :wall:

6 weeks- appointment with GP to register pregnancy
10 weeks- midwife booking appointment
15 weeks- 12 week scan (should obv have been 12 weeks but had to cancel first one)
16 weeks- downs syndrome blood tests
23 weeks- 20 weeks scan (later due to first scan being late!)
24 weeks- GP appointment
28 weeks- Midwife appointment.

Not sure who/when I see after that!!

Finally got in to see my GP and now have anti natal care there every 4 weeks, GP was shocked and disgusted as to how i have been treated :?
She has also said i have SPD and my hernia is getting worse, said there was nothing she could prescribe for the SPD just paracetamol when it became unbearable :( I have managed to get myself a support belt though and that does seem to help,
Only good bit of news is that she has written a letter to the hospital stating that she wants the hernia done the same time as the C Section so fingers crossed will only be one op this year :cheer:

I'm glad you got to see the GP and get some ante natal care at last FeeFee. Sorry to hear about your SPD and hernia. I totally sympathise with the SPD as I've also been suffering the last few weeks. There's a great post here in 3rd Tri board about SPD exercises. It might be worth you having a look :)

:hug:

Glad you're getting the right care now - you done the right thing to get it sorted out. I just looked out my care details from my notes & this is what I get:

1. Pre-booking with MW
2. Consultant between 8-12 wks
3. 16 weeks MW (bloods & heartbeat)
4. 20 weeks scan
5. 22 weeks MW
6. 25 wks MW (first baby only)
7. 28 wks MW
8. 32 wks MW
9. 35 wks MW
10. 38 wks MW
11. 40 wks MW
12. 41 wks Consultant

That seems like quite a lot when I type it up really - generally I'm very pleased with my care so far

Thank you all for your posts it really was the kick up the butt i needed, and thanks Sabrina i will take a looksie on T3 and have a try. :hug:
